View Full Version : How many inches off the ground is your car?
I did a test fit with my font bumper/ body kit and noticed that the ground clearance with this thing on was only 6 inches at stock ride height.
when i lowered my car 4 inches (to a 1 finger gap between the front tires and wheel wells), i ended up with only 2 inches of ground clearance.. it seems impractical to ride like this..
Anyways, I was just wondering how many inches off the ground do you guys ride?

had about an inch and a half of ground clearance when I put the coils all the way down. The only way to ride.

I'm at 2.9" I don't see how it would be possible to go lower and drive anywhere.

Are you measuring with the same wheels that you're going to use with the bodykit?

General rule of thumb when building a car is to try and get no part of the car lower than 4" above the ground and you'll be golden... you can go lower, but then chances are you'll still scrape somewhere sometime, if not often.
juicedwagon
01-25-2006, 03:28 PM
as stated befor
1" at park
3" when driving
up to 14" when i lock it up
hydraulics are also the way to go.
i would never buy a pricy body kit and not have adjustible suspention, your asking for it if you dont. i used to ride about 1 1/2 off the ground bit my front craossmember would bottom out sometimes(stock bumper)

2 and 3/4 from ground. My framerails have no coating on them anymore from being too low and scraping.

there was a member on CL who welded 2 pieces of metal to the tow hooks up front and attached some slippery hard plastic to either side, so every time the car was about to scrape the bumper, it would slide on those rails instead. Seems like a great idea, and I will do the same when my Q is lowered. With the right suspension setup and the right stifness, you can ride 2-3" off the ground easily...it will take some time to practice, and get the hang of it. Also you will begin taking alternative routes that have less bumps on them, and parking garage entrances that are not steep...that's what happened to me.
But back to the sleds idea, just go to ClubLexus.com and look in the IS section for a very long post by a girl who posted the progress of the buildup from day one. It's called "is story" or something along those lines.

Im on bags. Its a custom setup that rides better down low. I wouldnt say its as smooth as a factory air system but the rides is better then coilovers at that height

Well, with speed bumps I drive over in a S pattern..IF I can make it I usually scrape my frame...IF I scrape bad I dont go over them any more..The real steep ones I cant even go over...which meens parking further away and walking...
With Pot holes well alls I can say is know your roads drive slow and avoid roads that have them...short cuts through nieghbor hoods or taking the long way around is what I have to do..I kinda have a certain path in which I drive when going to different parts of the city..
With other shiat on the road once again drive slow switch lanes when necessary and avoid mest up roads...
Driving slow is the key to riding low and allways on your guard..since I am on Coilovers there is no option to raise up the car for clearance..So sometimes There are places I just cant go and or have to park far because of road conditions..But this is the choice I have made so that I can roll as low as possible...and the funny thing is the car rides great I love it not really that bouncy at all..nice and stiff..or maybe I am just use to it now..

Can you prove the 1/8"? I'm about 3/8" off the ground at full down on stock shocks. Time to upgrade to short strokes and add perfect bump stops later so its about 1/8" at full down.
