excuse my ignorance, but define what these do for potential buyers... why do we need these?

(I'm not being a smartass, but I'm used to lifting trucks. This is my first IFS/IRS car on air suspension, and I'm sure other people that are just getting into this scene need to learn what they need to do their cars right the first time. I cant tell you how many times I've seen the post "you need air" in any given thread and no explanations behind what it takes to do it correctly.)
