View Full Version : VIP Coilovers ??
I really want airrr............but after how much a pretty nice kit from japan will run.....I can't just drop another 4 to 5 g's on airrr.
I'm tired of looking at these nice rims in my room all day and want to mount already..... ::)
so i have decided to go coilovers for now....
most peeps that have coils on their GS normally are running Teins or Jics.....wich I understand are Japanese and reputable.
but what about other types, like ancielton, JP, g answer,k break and all other hard core vip companies that offer coilovers??
are these any better for anything?? or should I just stick to the common?? what do you suggest on coils for the GS? ::)

If you really want air, but can't afford a JDM company, why not just have it done locally?
If I'm not mistaken, those (most?) Vip companies outsource the fabrication of their suspension components to companies like JIC, or *, but with a few changes, a new name and a higher price.

i can't speak for teins on a gs but i have them on my nissan and i haven't had a single problem and i abuse the heck out of them.* service is supposed to be good too from what i've heard being that they are located in socal.* if you go with any japanese companies that don't have established distrubution in the US you'll run into problems(headaches) when it comes time to have the part(s) serviced.

Tein gets madd props in the states, but I heard they are one of the most shunned suspension companies in Japan. :o

Not really shunned... just known as not really high end. But ever notice how the low end products of Japan become super awesome JDM products in the US? There's a reason for that.......

ive been curious about this myself..
like whats good and whats not?
i called tanabe usa.. tein usa.. hks usa.. and blitz..
from my phone conversations with each one.. i learned a lot
of new information... most applications the tein and tanabe's
don't really lower the car much.. in fact, tein even says they
are after the performance more than the stance(this is what they said)...
HKS seems to drop the car to a nicer stance.. i persoanlly only have owned
tein products and now im on rsr.. but i wanna try hks.. i've never heard
of a person dissatisfied with HKS.. but i have heard people who don't
care for tein too much..
i also "heard" from people that JIC is junk in japan? is it???
do those VIP companies like JP, Fabulous, and Garson really put out
good quality coils? i hope this thread takes off in a good direction so
people like myself and many lurkers can find a good lowering solution...
lets keep everything good and bashing on a good level! hehe..
Yeah, I also heard not all Teins can drop all the way........from I understand the Tein's H A's can go pretty low...
I got quoted 1750 on the JIC FLT A2's wich is not bad.
but also, I figured since It's temporarily ( cause eventually want airr) I was thinking maybe saving money and going with Ksports.
My last coilovers on the Es were Ksports and I had no problems with them....I actually enjoyed them. they are similar to the d2's.
set you back about 1000...wich is pretty cheap.

In the magazines, most of the cars use coilovers
Of the cars that use coilovers, the most popular (as in, seen most often), is the JIC coilovers. Not sure if this is because they are cheap or because they are easy to get?
For the guys with REALLY low cars, its garage magical or custom coilovers. Garage magical specialise in custom one-off coilovers specified to the height you want them at. And they arent cheap. I saw an ad showing their famous Y32 cima which said from 388,000 to 488,000yen for those, and you had to give them your current struts.
These two options make up around than 80% of the cars in the VIP mags
Again, before someone jumps down my throat, i dont live in Japan and i dont regularly speak to Japanese VIP car owners. I just interpret what i read in the magazines.
Gato, regarding the D2 coilovers, i would read that thread started by LUX55 "not happy with my current coilovers", as i think the GS has similar suspension requirements to the LS (Very stiff spring rates compared to other cars). The D2 coilovers you liked on your ES might be totally under dampened on your GS. And alot of the low GS300s you see in the mags have notched front strut towers, so i assume they have the same problem with the upper control arm bottoming out if the spring rates are too low...
If i were you i'd get some secondhand JICs from Japan which were made for a GS300, while you save for air suspension...
