Hey guys, i am hoping to get some wheels for a friend off Yahoo auctions, and i'd like to ship them back one by one through EMS (its only a pair)...
The wheels are 18x8.5" Vertec Manaray Sports VR5 (5xtwin spoke type), and yes they are weak offsets, but he is keen and well I do want to try and help him.
Can anyone guess how much they'll weigh?

Dominik, I would say including packaging you are looking @ about 25 ~ 30 lbs per wheel, and if that is EMS Japan to US, it's going to be alot !!

I just weighed a box the other day wrapped up ready to ship 8 kilos.... you can do regular air cost less or surface which is 1/2 of that. Hope that helps

Robert, is that including the wheel, 8kg? I would have assumed it would be closer to the 25-30lb (11.5-13.5kg) that Jdmpalace (shawn?) said
Sounds good though! Postage is to Australia, which isnt cheap, but its better than waiting 12 weeks for seamail (my last package took that long)! To australia SAL (surface mail) costs more than EMS, so the only options we have are EMS or sea mail

Yes 18" inside the box it weighed 8 Kilos shouldnt be more then 10 what you got.

and here you reach a conundrum: are those particular wheels worth the added price of shipping? Considering the cost of shipping wheels to you via EMS, it usually only justifies getting wheels that are usually very pricey to begin with. Unless you guys can get those manarays for dirt dirt dirt cheap, it might be more expensive to to get the wheels and ship them, than to try and find an equivalent locally (ya never know if someone else has already imported a set and grown tired of them), or to find someone who imports in bulk, and even have them buy the wheels new for you and ship them over at a much lower price along with their other goods.

I just got a set of regularish 3pce 17's off yahoo.. shipping was total like $350 without tires.(including a gay $80 fee through rinkya).By sea. .. EMS will be FUCKING expensive.. and I agree with one ton..* unless its worth it, just send em by sea and wait..* . .* * They put the weight as :23,350grams. . .. So 53 lbs/2 = 26.5lbs each. . . around. .
now all i gotta do is wait. .and wait. . . and fuckin wait. .

The guy i am buying for says he will pay whatever it takes to get a pair of these wheels. The story is that he bought a full set secondhand over here. They were 'drift style' so fronts were chrome, rear were gold. He sent them off to be professionally refinished in a brighter gold, and have the lips polished etc. Fitted them on his car, and found that one of the fronts was 35 offset, and the other was 47. Since he spent all the money getting them refinished, he just wants to complete the set.
We have looked around locally and found nothing. Keep in mind the aussie marketplace is much smaller than the US :(
There are a pair of chrome Manarays on Yahoo that just got relisted at 20,000 (nobody bidded the first time), and assuming a boxed weight of 10kg each i can get them EMS'ed here in 1 week for 28,000. Compare that to sea mail (8-13 weeks) for 13,500 and you can see there isnt all that much difference. Container would be even cheaper; probably cost me only $50-100, but again its that wait time. For Australia there is no inbetween option (Surface mail costs more than EMS - go figure!)
Ironically, using the contacts i now have over there, i could have had my Work Eurolines EMSed to me for much less than a local buying service is charging me for container shipping them to me! 8 weeks and still waiting!

Sea mail has cost me $81 for 13 Kilos to USA so that about right to AUS....his money if thats what he wants do it.
If you need help getting them and shipping let me know

Hey thanks for that. Through the current guy i can get container shipping which is great for big items, but he's hardly ever online so if i find something on the spur of the moment i usually miss out.
Last guy i was using over there let me use my own auction account - i did the communication and just told him where to pay and when it would arrive. That was cool but he's come back to australia now :(
I'll message ya after work

i just shipped my suspension when i was in japan by sea for about 100 bucks
the overall weight was 23kg
i also bought some 18x8 work euroline dh that weighed in at 24kg with tires at super autobacs and when i asked the post office how much it would cost me to ship all 4 from japan to canada, they gave me a chart and it said 24kg would cost \12000 so about $400+ for all 4

You are lucky that you can post up to 30kg.... Australia only accepts 20kg packages so that would have been a no-no. Also cant ship tyres to Australia without an import approval.
Hence why i will have to ship both wheels separately if i do this. Still looking around here to see if i can find something locally....
