Installed the JIC's but kept it at the height it came in...and it looks like it is almost at stock height.

The pictures didnt come out good, because my camera sucked, it was dark and rainy and the photographer sucks as well.

The fronts are Shawnthemonster's wheels... Vienna 18x9
The rears are mine* Amistad Type D's 19x11 offset unknown!!

I think wheel fitment can be very deceiving if the suspension has not been installed. Try to put the suspension together first then analyze the situation after. From this pic, it looks like smaller tires, camber and a simple roll and pull is what you are going to need.

I wish I could just camber it in, but it sticks out a good 2-3".
Nothing was planned, just went with the wheel and going to work with it....if its widebody then it is :coolsmiley:

The JIC's are on, but didnt lower it yet, because the front tires are not here yet. The tire shop had to order the sizes for me.

We used different wheels just to see how Shawn's wheel specs look on a 1st gen. LS, so its basically just for the picture.

The front were 18x9 +20? and his rears were 18x10...

Shawn can you come in and tell them your wheel specs?

V8Aristo you could be right, because when I installed the JIC's we didnt bother adjusting the height yet because of the fronts not
being ready. But as soon as the fronts come in this week, I will play with the height and will see from there.

Wish me luck! :) I really want to pull this off.

aren't 18's too small for that platform?

AME_VIP
02-27-2006, 04:15 PM
18's can be nice on big body cars if you have great fitment. Not to mention the tires are sooo much cheaper than 19" +

Do those 19x11 have the 275/30/19 you were talking about? I have some 245/35/19 that would stretch on there nice ! I'll let them go cheap to you too :)

Flares will be a necessity... even -8deg camber in the rear won't get those tires under the fender. Heavily pulled fenders *might* work... but tires need to be narrower

I think about 3" my 19x10 -1's stick out 1.75" of my rear fender pretty sure i can stuff those in there with some camber and good roll. The front 9.5's on the other hand stick out 2" i think cambered heavy in the front will work. Thinking about getting the youzealand arms.

Anyhow, got some time to take better pictures of the car with the front and rear wheels on so that the experts can see it.The front and rear wheels stick out the same amount.
Im leaning towards flares rather than widebody, but who knows.

Front driver shot to show how much it sticks out.

Dominik
03-08-2006, 05:25 PM
Cant help with the chop, but I reckon you just need some more camber... like 15 degrees ;)

I vote flares, i've always loved that look. Just get some cardboard to cut and bend into the shape of the flare, then get it made up out of sheet-metal and weld it onto your fenders

03-08-2006, 05:36 PM
Wow, thats gonna be some pretty crazy looking car once done. Very nice plans! Theres 1 of 2 ways you can go. Run smaller fender flares and some major camber or Do a widebody type thing and run 3 and 5 degrees of camber for front and rear. Either way that rear wheel looks to be sticking out about 5"-6". :) :smitten:

So what are the full specs on the wheels and tires front and rear.
You have same no negative camber that I have.*
I like flares like that on a celsior.* There is no way pulling will do it for these wheels.* Mine stuck out 40mm (Just under 1.5") and a pull still won't do it for me but I haven't added neg camber yet.

Good luck with the project ! It will all be worth it in the end.

I'd be willing to let my 245/35/19 go for a song to help you out.* Shipping shouldn't be too bad since your pretty close.* We can work something out.* I'd really like to know what tire sizes your running now.

hmmm I wouldn't do 245 in the rear then unless you bring the size down in the front as well. Personally I prefer a nearly equal stretch in the front and rear.

Lexbubba
03-08-2006, 09:49 PM
Hmm looks like its sticking out about 4.5". I like the pull look better. I'd say pull and heavy camber.

Dominik

You can put 235/255 on those widths... 255 isnt really that much of a stretch on an 11...

some questions:
- what size tires do you ultimately want to run? (it might be worthwhile to swap the front tires on to the rear wheels, and get some like 225s for the fronts.. of course that's only if you want the really stretched look, and the extra clearance it provides.. otherwise, something like a 235/255 combo would be nice too)
- how much camber are you willing to run?

It's sort of a shame to have to start hacking up such a clean body... cuz once you start any modifications to the fenders, that's like IT.. no turning back, especially in the rear. What are your thoughts on what you are willing to do and not do as far as flares are concerned? i.e. fiberglass ok? what sort of flare shape do you want? etc...?

I really like how it has a little bit of meat in it and has a nice stretch so I think Im staying with this for now.

Im willing to camber as much as I can

I am very open to modifying the car...fiberglass is fine with me.
As for the shape of the flare, I have to search some of the pic archive that we have here and some from my mags.

Do you think a good body shop can copy a certain style of flare just from pictures alone?

Dominik

Have you got a kit for it yet/Are you getting a kit for it? If you are getting flares done etc, I'd say it would be best to do it when the kit goes on since the flares should run into the front/rear bumpers as well as the sideskirts etc

Pagong
03-09-2006, 09:05 PM
I do have a kit for it already. Its a full Insurance VS kit.

Im gonna try them on this weekend and maybe some cardboard cutout for the flares?

sheetmetal flares...tack weld them on, get it all lined up and symetrical all around, and then weld, grind down, finish/smooth out the welds, and the BAM! good shit. there was an old post on zilvia about this. the guy used some heavy(thick) paper/cardboard, drew out/taped them to his car. then he used that as a guide for the sheetmetal. it was a pretty good fender flare job, after it was welded down and smoothed out. look in the euro section here, there was a 'flared jetta build up' thread not too long ago. showed how they did the flares too.

Pagong I asked my body guy about doing the work on your flares and he says nope. He is so sick of taking the wheels on an off, adjusting height, cutting the fenders and fiberglassing 5 times etc.

Those flares are hot. Good luck!

Pagong
04-04-2006, 11:01 PM
Im taking the car to a professional bodyshop and have them add on some flares. I think this one should be done right to make it
look good...and I know I am not qualified to do such a job.

Going to tell them to cut whatever will be behind the flares, so I can drop the car more.* But with the kit, I might not have to, but I want to have that option.

Im going to keep quiet until everything is being worked on so I can actually show some progress.

I think some people are getting tired of me just posting "test fits" and not actual progress. :-[
So thats what Im going to give them.

Lowered the car and the wheels did camber in... :)

So from a 3-4" poke it now sits at a 2-3" poke. I can go lower with the coilovers, still had about 2 inches full down on it, but the fender was already resting on the tire.

If I can just pull the fender enough to cover the tires threads and I will be happy with it.

Are you sure your car is going to be able to turn with your car ridng so low with wheels that are that far out from the fenders? There is a limit to how far you can "poke" and i think you've reached it. :) You might need to lift your car up like crazy when driving around. Are you on bags yet?

Yeah, from the edge of the fender to the edge of the tire's grooves...
The flares are not as wide as I would like it to be, it was supposed to give me 2" extra "girth" from my stock fenders. I might have to just do with what I have and work with it.

That was one problem I was thinking about, but it has alot of room back there even when I lowered it.

I do have a bodykit sitting in my garage, so I wont be driving it this low when the kit is on.
