I thought hood ride was finding old VW's, and doing up the motor, dumping the car, and putting nice wheels on it, but not mess with the body/interior?
Since when did that entail ripping of the bumper covers, and making a rusted out hood, when no other part on the car is even remotely rusty?
I don't get this 'trend'. No wonder it died.

Caoboy, it looks like you're gradually heading towards this direction with your car.

seeing euros like this make me want to get one as a beater car. as long as its low and slow, no one will say anything about the condition of the body. at least no one will want to try to steal it...

i think its a very artistic and creative way of stylin a car.
not my choice of tuning, but i can see how much thought and time was spent into making "beat down" parts look aesthetically pleasing.

This trend never died...go to any local or big hot rod car show and you can see tons of them. This trend is called rat rod and primarily started off with the Ford model A's. If done right it could look pretty cool and interesting.

the "hood" in hood rides doesn't mean you just rust the hood and call it a day.

the first two pictures had me thinking it was a woodgrain finish on your hood. Then i scrolled down to realize it was rust. lol

This isn't a ratrod, don't confuse people. Ratrods are so much different than this..in fact I have no idea what to call this thing other than eclectic.
This is what ratrods look like:

http://www.hotrodhappenings.com/ShowTell-Brads30FordRatRod-002.JPG
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n266/360boy/ratrod.jpg
And a ratrod styled euro to keep it on topic:
http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg234/sciroccoman11/VWBugRatRod.jpg
What is shown here is something that was "taken" from the ratrod style as also shown here:

http://corsasport.co.uk/carimages/4995/rust_on_002.jpg
The closest to a modern ratrod style would be this W140 which we've all seen:
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n266/360boy/Rat-Rust_Style_17.jpg
But that is custom paint...not parts removed, paint stripped, and soaked in salt water...which is what those Euros did. they just adapted part of another style to their own. Just clearing that up so there's no confusion.
