I use mobil 1 on my Q45. I have used it on all my cars and it has worked well. For cold weather I would use 0W40 and in the normal weather maybe a 5W30. Mobil 1 filter or Nissan filter are the only ones i would use. I wouldnt use Frams or STP. Oh and the Q takes roughly 5 3/4 qtz of oil if your gonna do it yourself

Whats most important is how frequent you do your oil changes rather than what oil or weight you use. Every 3000K miles religiously will make sure your Q stays in top shape.

For the tranny take it to a good shop who knows a thing or two about Q45s. Somewhere that has a BG machine that can suck out all the old tranny oil and refil it with the OE nissan fluid. Change the filter and drop the pan to get all of it out. I would look into probably doing the differntial fluid too.

i know this is a dumb question but should i go to mobil and let them do it?would they have everything cuz i get a discount there.and what about a engine flush before oil change? good or bad idea i heard so many different stories

sup beachbum dood.... welcome to vsc. nice Q45 u got ther... so so with the tranny it needs a good flush and a refil to the top. well as for the engine flush is kinda jus like an oil change in all of its own. mobil 1 got u like that? i would go see em....

Everyone has their own preference. Some people like Royal purple or Mobil or Castrol, I personally always have used Mobil 1. I like the idea that a lot of high end cars like vipers, porsches, bentleys, vettes etc come with it from the factory. As for the weight, I think the 5W30 is what the factory service manual reccomends for most weather. For colder it goes to 0W30 but i think 0W40 is a better blend. Its a little more thin than than 5W30 so on those cold start ups it will flow more easily.

I guess if you trust them go ahead. Its not rocket science to change it so im sure they will do it just fine. What i would do if i didnt want to do it myself is go to walmart buy one of those 5 quart jugs of Mobil 1 and a 1 qt bottle and go to the infiniti dealer and ask for an oil filter for your Q. Take them to the shop and supply them with your stuff. Just have them do the labor. The oil should be less than 30 and the filter like 8 bones.

One thing i forgot to mention about the tranny fluid, is that the tranny is very delicate. As much oil comes out is as much as you put in. In the Service manual it says that overfilling can cause damage to the tranny just an FYI.

I use Amsoil, and change the oil once a year. In fact, just did it 2 weeks back after 14 months. I've sent out for analysis twice and both times the oil had minimal contaminants and said "oil suitable for continued use". If you are sticking to 3k oil change intervals, synthetic is a total waste of money. Synthetic oils don't sludge and they don't break down like conventional oil. Amsoil is rated for 25k and so are their EAO filters, although I don't put anywhere close to 25k in a year on mine. My car doesn't leak a drop of oil, it doesn't burn a drop of oil and the engine is spotless. I have 110k now, got it at 76k almost 5 years ago. After a year, you check the oil, it's dark in color, but still silky smooth, and the engine still felt, well, you can't feel it. Everyone I've turned onto Amsoil has thanked me for it.

My car has:
engine oil: Amsoil
tranny: Redline ATF
brake system: Amsoil
rear differential: Amsoil gear oil w/ Amsoil slip-loc (Q's have LSD stock)
power steering: Amsoil
coolant: Amsoil

Only reason I have Redline ATF is I got a case free, otherwise, that would be Amsoil too.

You have an extremely low mileage car, only 55k is like still brand new. I'd suggest using either Amsoil or Sea Foam and do an engine flush before your next oil change so all the gunk and dino-based oil is out of the engine and then fill it with Amsoil, Mobil1 or Redline synthetic oils.

My 2 cents, Amsoil is best. I've used it for a decade on my cars, sent out for analysis on several occasions, and it's always been great. It was the 1st 100% synthetic motor oil on the market, in the early 1970s. Racers I know swear by it, and even the CEO of NEO Synthetic oil (mainly racing oils) when I asked him how his oil compares to Amsoil said "there's nothing bad I can say about Amsoil, but our oil is also premium oil".
