View Full Version : Tried my wheels on for the 1st time.....

Okay guys after holding these wheels for so long and trying to decide on what tire size to go with, I've decided to mock them up on some used rubber to see what kind of fitment I'd come up with for a starting point to go off of.
The wheel/tire specs are as follows:
Front 20x9 (et +11) with 225/35/20 Toyo Proxes4
Rear 20x10 (et +23) with 245/35/20 Falken FK452
Both tires stretched to my satisfaction but the tire size looks a little small in the front to me and I'm almost affraid to buy that size for the front. I know i dont have air or coilovers yet and that makes a difference but the front seems like its too much weight on the tires. Anyway I'm just starting out and I hope I'm on the right track. I just need to find a different tire for the front (I guess). Something that will run a little taller than what I'm running.
I initially thought that these wheels would stick out a little because of the offsets, and when I jacked up the car to test fit them, they would poke a little. I didn't account for the wheels being on the car and down off of the jack (if you can understand that).
Anyway new tires and air (maybe coilover not sure yet) are on the way.....
SHE'S NOT MUCH TO LOOK @ BUT SHE'S MINE.....LOL
Sorry about the pics.....digi cam screen is broken and I can't see the settings to take off the flash.

Toyo's have weak sidewalls, I dont recomend stretching them on heavy cars. They work on tiny VW's but it took me 6 toyo tires to finally understand that they just won't work
Since your already scared, I won't post pics lol.
BTW I was running a 225/35 on a 8.5" and a 245/35 on a 10" Nothing too crazy and they were still popping easily.
I am not a fan of those wheels on the car but they will look much better once the car is real low. Good luck

I felt like the toyo's would'nt work out too well because they looked soooooo low when we let the car down off the lift. I love the rims on my car but not as it sits. I need to go way lower before I can really appreciate them on my car. I have them posted for sale because I wanted to go with a split 5 star wheel like the oem M-parallel's that came on the car. I seen a Trafficstar (can't remember the name) wheel that is the closest to what I'm looking for but I have to sell these 1st.
Thanks for the insight. NO TOYO'S FOR ME I GUESS......
Not bad its a good look but like Agi said its gonna look much nicer on slam...

looks good not a fan of the wheels but once it's finished im sure it can look quite good, you did however ship Step 1 which is suspension, but as long as you slam the car and put 15MM spacers front and 20mm Rear, you'll be all set

Wow, I'm impressed by how readily that car took those moderately agressive wheels. Those are some deep fenders.

Definitely going to need some spacers.
Those wheels will look good with a drop, and some 25mm spacers in the rear, probably a 10-15 in the front.

Thanks guys, I'm just starting on this car and its my 1st attempt at VIP "styling" I'm open to all comments on what would make the car come out better. I'm thinking of going with the right size tires since I don't need to stretch. I'm also in the market for a different set of wheels because I do like the wheels, but I want something a little different. I've been calling around and UAS seems to be my best bet. I'll probably wind up ordering the bags/brackets next month and then buying the rest as I go along. The kit is kinda pricey for me @ this time, so I'm gonna take it 1 step @ a time.
Thanks again for your comments

I agree, I was thinking they were gonna poke a little, hence the reason I tried on some used tires that would give a moderate stretch. Maybe now I could buy a set of 5x114.3 from someone here and use spacer/adapters afterall........
Oh, if someone wants to chop it be my guest....I'd love to see it done with the wheels actually on the car.....

Wait...why would you need 5x114 adapters if the wheels are already on?

LOL....Nah man I was saying that now I could buy a set of wheels from 1 of you guys with the 5x114.3 bolt pattern (with the same offset or close) and then run adapter/spacers to bring the wheels all the way flush. I only say that because most (if not all) of the Japanese wheels only come 5x114.3. Most of the wheels I'd like to put on my car, I see them in the "for sale" thread, but I never see them in my bolt pattern.
I was just surprised that these wheels didn't fill the wells with the offset I'm running.
Did I confuse you enough yet????? =)

I think that you are off to a good start. Not really feeling the wheels but you already addressed that by stating that you have these wheels "For Sale". Hope that you are able to find a buyer for the wheels. Then you can get a set with the right offsets so you won't have to run spacers. Good luck and have fun with your build.

I'm surprised so many on here dislike these wheels. I think they look very slick on the car, and when it's dumped it should look money!

Yeah, no problem. Dump it, and then make your car monochromatic (i.e. paint all of the plastic trim body color) and it will be an incredible transformation!

Thanks guys color matching the bumpers & side skirts were on the list from the begining, but I'm going to wait till after I give the car a facelift. Gonna put the 01 front end & sides. I don't know about new wheels just yet because I have too much invested in these wheels and I can't seem to get rid of them. I don't think I'm askin too much for them ($1500 shipped), but someone correct me if I'm wrong. So until these sell I guess I'm just stuck with them.
