Ok, well here goes, since buying my 03 Q more than a year ago I have been trying to figgure out how to upgrade the stock screeen or add stock nav or any other option like this. I have finally come up with a plan as to what I am going to do, to add a car-pc with a touchscreen and keep my stock screen to display all of my normal car stuff like tire pressure, service notifications, heat and ac functions and everything else it can display.

Now before I take all the credit I got the idea for this from some one on another forum that did something like this on his 03 or 06 M (sorry I cant remember the year but I'm pretty sure that it was one of those years) I am going to relocate the stock screen down into the center area where the stock cupholders are located and then mount a touchscreen up where the factory screen is originally located. I then plan on mouting the actual computer in the trunk where the factory nav would normally mount and installing a nav program, RR probably, windowsXP, and a few other very basic programs not going to list them all out but I will when I get it all installed and running without problems.

I will Try to take pictures as I go along and would love to get any help from anyone who has some knowledge or ideas that might help me out.

Now before everyone gets excited and thinks that this will be a project that moves to completion in a week or two, let me say that I doubt that will happen. I am just starting to buy all the parts I will need and studying up on some wire diagrams to try to figure out how I am going to hack the audio into the factory system of if im going to add some other headunit.

So please be patient and I hope that I can get this done sooner than later. But I am still attending college and its cold and the weather isn't always good up here in Mass. So I repeat this will not be done immediately but hopefully soon and any help anyone can lend me will be greatly appreciated.

Also I dont mean for this to be a teaser, sorry if it comes out that way I plan on keeping a work log and looking for any help from anyone that can.

hit me up if you need some parts. i don't remember if we discussed it already but i have almost a whole carpc i never used.

i think i talked to you about it a lil bit if you could post a link or send me some details maybe I could buy some or all of what you have and why are you getting away from the carpc yourself. And any helpful info you have would be great incase I missed it or overlooked it on my research thus far.

just let me know if you have any questions. i built the car pc for my max so i never got to use it. the stuff i have might be overkill because mine was going to control a lot of functions of the car, but if your looking for high end performance lmk and i'll compile a list for you.

wow. relocate the stock screen to the cupholders? good luck with that. that whole stock screen is somewhat of a nightmare and is kinda bulky. im assuming u saw the dash fully apart before buying anything for it? if not ill see if i have pics of my dash stripped during the fiberglass dvd install. you can always just put one of those cheap dvd convertors for the stock screen if you have a premium pkg. its not touchscreen but itll save u a grand or two.

..or if you happen to be big baller can you please live my dream for me and put a 13 inch pc monitor fiberglassed where the whole center console area is and relocate the a/c vents and stock screen?

something like this, but cleaner and only 1 big screen and no headrest monitors on the dash. http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-snc1/v2295/81/91/19513159/n19513159_33173488_8063.jpg

jay I have seen the size of the stock screen and I have measured it out and it should fit where the cupholeders are perfectly and the fact that I found someone that did almost the same exact thing I am trying to do in an M. and I think the big screen looks good but its really not my style I dont wanna go to overboard I want the stock look but just with a few improvements. The dash you posted just looks like there is to much going on. Also I am doing this in my daily driver and dont want anything to flashy I'm not trying to biuld a show car but instead just max my Q out to my liking. And after I get the carpc all worked out I might get a JP table for the passenger side so I can put my coffee down somewhere other than my lap dont want any coffee burns there. thanks for the input but I dont think I'll be going that big but hopefully It'll be something that you approve of.

BOB I would love to see what you have I dont remember at all and I didnt see the thread when I took a quick look and what car components where you gonna have it control. And what where you gonna use to control them was it the fusion thing? I dont think I'm gonna go that far I was reading up on it and it seems a little confusing but having the touchscreen controlling the windows and other functions would be nice but I dont think I am gonna tackle that just yet. maybe that'll be something I can experiment with next winter or fall but I dont think I am gonna deal with it right now I'd have to do a lot more research on it before using it.

yeah that screen is too big and theres way too much other shit goin on but i just meant the general idea of a big screen in the middle. i think that guy has a 19 inch i think, i wanted around a 11-13" right where that stock screen is.
also that jp table sounds like a great idea to replace those cupholders.

btw do u have a link to that M u speak of? i wanna seeee. i cant picture how that worked out. i know anything is possible, that just seems like a ton of work to get the desired results.

heres the link to his M its an 06 and I really like it I dont know if he posts here or not and if you look through his thread he did a much bigger screen in his current ride which is an 03 fx I think this guy does amazing work if your into the whole carpc you might wanna look into his two threads they gave me some great ideas. And I think his two biulds came out very nice and blend into the stock dash very well. And i think you said exactly what I wanted to that the picture of the dash you posted has way to much going on and I think its overboard especially in a daily maybe a show car but ingeneral thats not what I want my interior to look like ever. but definitely check out his thread pics are on the first page.hopefully this will give everyone an idea of what Im tryin to do.

looking for a little help the fsm i have or thought i have wont open and when i can get it to open it only has info on wheels and tires. how do i pull up the bottom factory trim in the center console on an 03 Q the part that has the heated seat switches and shifter and shifter trim. I icant figgure out how to pull this off i need to pull this off so i can start dealling with relocating the stock screen.

jaynick808
02-12-2009, 11:52 PM
you remove the cd changer bezel and take off the ashtray then pry up the woodtrim. then take apart the whole armrest then you can eventually get to those pieces. if you want a new fsm pm me your email and ill send you one.

Qfour5
02-13-2009, 08:58 AM
I was able to get the wood trim up and get access to the cupholders without taking the armrest off or apart all I had to do was lift the arm rest up so I could pull the wood trim panel upthe cd chander and ashtrray can stay it was very easy to get to the cupholders but some of the tabs that hold things down are being quite stubborn and I dont want to break any thing because I want to have the ability to go back to stock if I ever feel the need. right now i am trying to pull the cupholder up and out of the center I just dont want to break it and it is pretty stubbornly stuck in there. But i'll get it out eventually. On another note I am starting to order more parts and waiting on some responses about others, blackonblack if you get this I sent you a pm about some of the parts your selling. Hope to hear back from you and hopefully get some of the parts im interested in. I am takinsg some pics and i will try to post them after the weekend. I am going snowboarding and dont think ill be near a comp but if i am I'll try to check in and keep everyone up to date.

Ok here are some shots of the stock screen relocated into the center where the stock cup holders were this was just a test fit to make sure it would fit. It does and it is really tight and tough to get in. Now I have to start making a surround to make it look good sitting down there and lengthen the wires so I can have it display all of the stuff it would in its regular spot in the dash. I bought a small pc so I can mount it in my trunk and I just bought a 7 inch lilliput touch screen. Once they get in, I will then start working on mounting the screen in the opening where the stock screen was mounting the car pc in the trunk where the stock nav dvd drive would mount and run a bunch of wires all over my car. I am hoping I don't have to make any mods to the stock dash opening and can just mount the touch screen right up there. But enough typing here are some pics of the stock screen test fit though tell me what you think.

hope the pics come up right I am still learning the whole posting pics stuff let me know what you think.

Qfour5
02-17-2009, 10:46 AM
also in this pic you can see that when I make the surround for the stock screen down in the center I should be able to mount a couple of USB connectors or something else. Once I get more parts in I will post up pics of the touch screen and the comp and how it is all gonna be mounted. lots of pics will be coming from now on.

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk152/bknumbas/car%20pc/IMG_0706.jpg

And blakonblack I am still hoping to buy a couple of parts off of you so if you read this I hope to hear back from you soon.

im getting there. its a real pain. im still dealing with lengthening the stock screen wiring, but i should have that done by tonight and some parts are here and others will be arriving early this week. I will try to post up some more pics tonight if I finish the stock screen relocation and then I will start biulding a surround and some other stuff while waiting for the rest of my parts to come in. I Hope it will come out very nice and I will try to keep everyone up on the progress but I cant post much right now I am trying to work on the project today.

i like the idea of where you put the oem screen. a fiberglass bezel would finish it off well. as for parts, try and catch me on aim. i've been a bit busy lately but i'm still on regularly.

that is what I had planned I should have a lot more pics to post sunday afternoon or monday and then I'm just waitin on the screen and to finish setting up the comp with its programs and a couple other things.

thanks and im trying to figgure out a way to mount some usb inputs av cables for a second input and some other stuff, like an on/off switch and a couple of other things I think some of them will be mounted in the surround around the stock screen down in the center I am going to be working on that this week while the rest of my parts are coming in and trying to get my car back together a little bit I've been driving with my interior completely torn apart.

so I didn't get everything I wanted to done today but I did get a good ammount of wire work done so heres what I did to the factory screen harness and hopefully I can get the stock screen moved down and fully wired by tomorrow and maybe start getting to work on the fiber glass, or anything other type of surround for the factory screen and see what else I can do. heres some pics of my wire work over the weekend.

Heres all the wires and the piece of the factory harnes that plugs into the factory screen

Well just checkin' back in with some updates, I am still setting up my car pc and its starting to be a little bit frustrating. I'm starting to get all the programs running and installed starting to deal with mounting of PC, HD(hd will not fit in the pc case so I am mounting it external), and screen. I am also working on a surround for the screen where it sits down where the cup holders used to be it will probably be fiberglass and I am thinking of wrapping it in black leather if possible, if not I will use some bondo and make it look really smooth and then just paint it black or possibly send it out to get it airbrushed to match the stock woodgrain. I might be looking for someone to do some photo chopping for me down the line. But as for updates I have finished wiring the stock screen to its new location and have it displaying everything properly and I must say I like the results it is readable and only gets a little glare, but you can see anything you need in the sun so it should be good for night also. As for the frustrating part I had to return some parts because they weren't working and I want this to be done and not need much tweaking after I am done installing it. I know I'll always be workin' on some part of it but the more I have right now the less I have to do later. But without further blabbering I will show some pics of what has been done over the past week.

Oh and here's the touch screen that will be going in the stock location I am working on mounting it and mounting the control panel someplace else for it. Once I remove the frame around the screen I should be able to mount it flush like the stock screen sits stock. but for now since I am installing stuff with it out of the car i feel more comfortable having it in its case.
the touch screen

and where it will reside once I do some little changes. well almost but you get the idea.

interesting. when i was reading that m35 carpc build i was wondering how hard it is to push the buttons up top and look down at the screen. i hope you put one of those universal clear films on the stock screen! gonna be scratched up bad over there.

i was thinking if i were to do this build, id put the aftermarket screen in the cupholders since its touchscreen, only thing is cant watch dvd's there.

I will be, I'm waiting on it to come in from ebay figgured an ebay screen protector will work as good as some name brand one would. I thought about that but I would rather have the touchscreen up where the factory screen was I will be running nav off of it have a better reverse cam(hopefully). I will have my whole music library and some movies accessible the touchscreen also has two other inputs I can plug things into possibly a ps3 eventually and thinking about some other inputs. But for me it was more desirabble to have the touchscreen up top and the stock down below. I won't be using the stock screen nearly as much as the touch so that helped in the decision.

also has anyone with an F50 used the Pac audio aai-nis (i think thats the part number) sound input. From what I understand it uses the sat radio in and allows you to input audio from RCA's i might go this option for now until I get a good soundcard and try to do something better but still weighing my options right now.

Hey whats upso its been a bit since an update I've been busy with a lot of stuff. but I have the comp runnin with a few programs workin on a wifi solution that will work in my car might have to get a different phone so I can use it as a wifi hub I'm thinking I-phone 3g, or if I stay with verizon maybe switching my phone to a blackberry or some other windows based phone maybe an htc touch pro but that will be in a month or two right now I gotta get the comp loaded in. so here is the comp setup on my table/work bench in a real mess.
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk152/bknumbas/car%20pc/IMG_0736.jpg

but its running and getting programs and music and some other stuff installed.

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk152/bknumbas/car%20pc/IMG_0732.jpg

So, because I am unable to make up my mind on things quickly I am yet to decide what program I will ultimately use I put both riderunner and centrafuse. I think I will ultimately go with centrafuse so far I like it and here are some screen shots still have to hack up the monitor fram and get everything mounted up the rest of the way and work on a fiberglass surround for the stock screen.
here is a shot of centrafuse
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk152/bknumbas/car%20pc/IMG_0735.jpg

and here is a shot of riderunner
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk152/bknumbas/car%20pc/IMG_0737.jpg

and some nav shots

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk152/bknumbas/car%20pc/IMG_0745.jpg

and the wifi running in my house

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk152/bknumbas/car%20pc/IMG_0746.jpg

More updates will come when I start mounting things in the car or hacking things up in order to mount. I am going to have the pc mounted in the trunk and should be mostly hidden with wires running from it up to the monitor in the dash and into the sound system of my car. I am also trying to figgure out how to mount some usb's and other ports and maybe a slot load dvd/cd burner drive somewhere. Hope everyone likes it so far, I cant wait to finish and put my car back together.

I'm very impressed with the work you've done. I think the re-placement of the stock screen was especially interesting and functional. With the right finishing touches, this could look almost OEM. Good Job! Can't wait to see the finished product.

I've been thinking about what I'm going to do with my F50 screen; Like you guys I want to change it up because I think the stock setup is pretty weak. Especially for my car because I don't have NAV or anything crazy. My plan was to try and locate the OEM video output that goes to the OEM screen and then pipe that output to the new Source (carPC, etc). Then replace the OEM screen as you've done and hook up that up to the carPC. Then within the carPC O/S, switch between the two types of output (OEM or carPC). This way I could get both types with one screen in the car.

I've done a carPC in other cars in the past, but I prefer to re-use modified game consoles as carPC's. I like to do this because the game consoles are usually cheaper, smaller, and they've gone through a cooling R&D process. The X-Box's are usually my choice, even the old one will work. You mod the console with the mod chip, then you can install any O/S on the console. Use USB Hubs to extend the USB functionality. The newer X-Box 360 mod chips still allow you to switch back to normal X-Box 360. So in effect, you get a carPC, a game console, and a native DVD player in one package. And on top of that you can even plug in your iPod (as long as the carPC O/S can support iPod). A PS3 could also work, they have mod chips for those now, and it has native blue ray DVD support.

Crazy work witht eh car pc man.... awesome job!

my solution with my indash tv was to remove it completely and put in my old one from my 1996 in there instead. this way i can have my screen for my car pc instead... such a shame though... it would have been cool to use the tv -_-;

but i want my boh boh and doof doof louder so out it goes!

Crazy hawaiian
I am hoping I come out with something that looks oem or very close if not I was hoping to have the whole project done by the end of this week but I dont think I will pull that off. And I agree with you that the stock screen on our car is very weak and should have been designed to do more than what it does atleast on the newer M's they have video inputs I think some other infiniti's and nissan's along with other cars are starting to go with video and audio inputs in most of their stock set ups. I didn't have stock from the factory so I bought all the peices and I was going to just try to add stock nav but then decided I wanted more and decided to go the car pc route. And the trouble with trying to deal with using stock screen is it is rgb+sync signal which isn't that popular in the aftermarket screen market I have heard there might be a converter that might be able to work but I didn't want to go that way. I'd love to see someone do it but I wasn't going to tackle that. And I do like the ide of hacking or modding a X-box 360 or PS3 for a car pc but I couldnt bring myself to do that either but I do have 3 other inputs other than pc for my monitor so I might be thinking of adding a PS3 eventually but we'll all have to wait and see if that happens. Right now I want to finish this up and I have some other stuff to tackle. But thanks for cheking it out and I hope to see you doing something like this eventually take a lot of time and try to get as much figgured out before you start installing and setting things in motion which I'm sure you already know from previous car pc's. thanks again and I'll try to keep the updates coming.

who_ate_my_rice
I'd love to see some more pics of what you did that one looks pretty good and I agree it would be great to be able to just use the stock screen instead of dealing with replacing it.

Vzuptnguyen
I know I've seen pics of the jdm dashes and I would love to get one but the cost of the F50 dash and then getting it shipped here would be astronomical and I couldn't budget that with all the other things I am trying to do on the car right now. hopefully my end result is something I am happy with as of right now its starting to come to gether more and more

And once again thanks everyone for checkin my project out and giving any input its all appreciated. Thanks and hope to get some more work done and pics of the progress up soon.

Hey guys sorry I been busy with some other things I am finishing up the mounting of the touchscreen I should have it done tomorrow night and I am still working on the surround arround the stock screen where the cupholders used to be. And I am still waiting on some parts to come in mainly just comp wires USB and VGA extensions and a few other things. But it is moving along and I have kinda step away for a short break since bring out my Honda CBR 954 RR but now that the weather is rainy and a litlle to cold for me to be out on the bike, I am back at the car pc for the next 2 or 3 days. Hopefully I will have it installed and running with everything coming together by sunday or monday except for internet which I will be dealing with once I have the comp installed. I think I'm going to hack an i-phone and use it as a wi-fi port I also have to track down a bluetooth keyboard and mouse and maybe some more bluetooth comp accessories. I will try to keep up with posting this and staying at it and I can't wait to finish this up right now I am gettting very anxious to get this done so I can get my car 100% back together atleast for now.
And Kyle I am sure that you could tackle this its not nearly as bad as a lot of people think its just a bunch of wires and paying attention to all of them. But at the same time I wouldn't say any one could tackle a car pc I even needed to ask a few questions here and there. But once again praise from someone who's car I truly look at in awe is always good to hear. thanks and I hope the end product comes out to everyones liking not just my own.

so tonight I ripped open my touchscreen and I am going to need 2 cat5 cables for the control panel and lots of delicate soldering. I hacked my touchscreen frame more than I ever want to see any one hack a touch screen and tomorrow I should have it mouted and start with the comp and hd monting Im also slowly working a model for the stock screen surround in the stock cuholder place hopefully I will get to fiberglass soon and then star the finishing off. but first up is finishing the comp install. I'm so sick of having a void screen spot in my dash I cant wait to finish this off. and move on to my next project prob gonna be air by the looks of it. but thats another topic in a different forum on here

ok guys I know ive been slackin with the updates and I apologize for that here are some pics of the progress Ive been making since I last posted on this project. First I'll show you the changes made to mount the touchscreen (warning to weak stomachs pics of a mutilated touchscreen lilliput are coming.) I had to rip the whole screen apart do lots of delicate soldering and hack the creen up to something that I cant even call a frame or case but Its mounted in the dash and looks pretty good mounted in there much better than a huge whole in my dash.

the touch screen is now sitting in the dash waiting for the comp and rest of wires to be run. I have over 90 gigs of music on it 10-15 movies so far and centrafuse, roadrunner, internet explorer, firefox, microsoft office, and someother small programs. I am woking on a textured surface to cover up the model control panel for the screen and still have some custom bracket work to deal with and some other stuff but I am really close to completing this and hope I can get this atleast basically done for now by this weekend and have it ready for the ride down to New york in 2 weeks.

thanks eyedea I cant wait to finish this up and move on to other mods. When I started this I didn't think it would take this long to finish and I didnt know my car would be driving with the whole interior ripped apart for more than a couple weeks. so much for plannig things out ahead of time.

Ok everyone it's almost done. If the weather had been better today I might have been able to finish it. I have all the wirres run and almost everything in place just waiting on the paint to dry on the custom molded screen controls/cd changer surround I went with a textured paint and then satin black spray over it

and this is what i did today after class ripped my whole car apart and ran more wires still have to run a power wire from the battery and make the final conections and connect the screen controls to the screen via my custom parallel port connection for it and put my car back together tomorrow.weather should be good enough before I go to work to finish all wires up and get the interior back together.

I will sty up with the updates even when I finish this I will still be tweaking it forever.

Kyle do you remember which wires were the power ground and acc lines from when you wired your cd player in?

And any tips from any one on how I should go about removing the rear deck cover? I have to pull it up so I can mount the brackets that I remodeled to hold the comp. I rebent the brackets that hold the factory nav drive so they can hold my comp case and I can put all the carpet in and not see anything that shouldn't be there, operation stealth comp. Can't wait to get my trunk back together. I'm just being lazy right now and havent looked into wire diagrams yet and the FSM to see how I should go about removing any of the peices that are left in the back of my car heres what it looks like until tomorrow.

nice work on the car looks really good. In order to remove the rear deck you have to remove the panels that cover the rear door panels. There are small plastic covers that have a screw in them that needs to be taken out. The sub surround also has metal clips under it that you can just pull up on. Good luck with the rest of the work!

By the way be glad you didnt have to take out the power rear reclinig seats what a pain in the ass! The seats dont come out together all in separate pieces from the center. VSC is having problems posting pics but the link below shows how much more stuff is there for the power seats.

Wow, guess I am lucky. Power rear seats was another option I was going to look into possibly adding. I wish I had gotten a premium with all of this stuff already in it, but I am happy with my car and will just have to mod it to my liking. Not to get too far off topic, but does any one know if it's possible to add the power seats to a F 50 that didnt have them already... if it's possible I might still have to try to push my electrical tampering a little further. Now back to the car pc I will hopefully get some shots of it in and running and almost 100% before this weekend. Working on some finishing touches so I can go to a BBQ in New york on sunday. hopefully I'll be done with it by then but I think I'll still be working on some last finishing peices. Pics will be up sometime later when I dont have problems posting them up prob later this week. (thursday friday look for updates and some sneak shots of it in )

when i was deadening my car i noticed harnesses in the rear seat area that probably are for the power seats, im sure if you can locate all the rear seats and equipment you can just plug it right in. the rear window shade will take a lot more work though.
cant wait to see this done. very interested to see it all together.

side note: i am glad i didnt choose the other f50 i was looking at that had power seats. too tall to use them and my rear seats went in and out of my car at least 10 times already. would have been a major headache and id be looking to trade you for regular non power seats by now LOL.

Qfour5
05-12-2009, 06:35 AM
dmn jay why didn't you get the other I would have loved a straight up trade for some rear power seats. and the height difference I could live with I'm 6'1" but am rarely in the back seat it would just be a nice option. I feel bad my girls new CRV atleast has reclinng rear seats. But I'll have to look around for the plugs and see whats up. For now I'm sticking to one headache mod ata a time. can't wait to post up some more pics of the car pc progress.

Qshadow

Qfour5 - all of the plugs are there to install the power seats if you want but may be more work than its worth. Youll need all new seats cushions, an entire new center console and cushions, new frames under the seats both back and bottom, the motors for the seats and the switches on the rear doors (not sure if the ones that dont have the option have the spot for the switches on the doors already?)
Your car computer is coming together nicely, post new pics as soon as you can or whenever VSC fixes the pic problem.

jaynick808 - it took me and a friend almost 2 hours just to dismantle and remove all of the cushoins for the rear seats and undo all of the plugs. In order to remove all of the seats and frame you have to remove the motors for the power seats from the floor of the car -a headache would have been more fun - 30 minutes to install coilovers and new brakes, 2 hours to remove rear seats part way - something seams backwards here!

Yea the first time I had to remove my power rear seats, it took me hours. Once you know what your doing, it should only take 10 minutes per side. The reclining rears seats was the #1 reason I chose the Q over the LS430 at the time. Girls go nuts when the rear seats start moving.

It's comming along nicely.

Agi that's one more reason I want the power rear seats...especially once I get those curtains installed, great girl trap. Okay everyone, the car pc is in and fully functioning. I will try to take some teaser pics for now but don't want to show the whole thing until after the BBQ on sunday. I think it looks and works great. Still have to get my rear seats back in place and my all of my trunk lining put back in but after doing some wiring and ripping my car apart all last night, and not getting it back to a drivable condition until 1 in the morning, I'd say I got a lot done for one long night.now I just have to try to finish putting seats and trunk back in and clean my car for the trip to NY see a few of you there and I'll try to take some pictures.

and one last pic with the flash on.

More will come next week, and they will be better shots and give everyone a better idea of the whole set up and what Ive got going on. And this will be an ever evolving peice of my car I am already looking into some new things, possible upgrades and changes along with the ability to maybe add more screens. But those will all be things that I will tackle later. The first thing I will be working on changing will be my audio from comp to factory system, maybe I'll decide I need to upgrade my whole audio system but it will all be in steps and not all at once. I have some other projects on the back burners that have to come off and get put in motion along with suspension set up and possible body work. But please let me know what you think of the teasers and hopefully you'll like all the steps and progress that are soon to come.

the premium package is over rated... more stuff to worry about, more shit to go wrong. Knock on wood that I don't have any real problems, but never know. I prefer base model cause easier to run wires and to decifer most of the cars wiring

Still tweaking a few things here and there but for the most part I'm just gonna sit back and enjoy the comp until I save up for suspension either coils or air runner still havent decided, thats actually what I wanna ask you about your opinions on what route to go some people have told me air wont be the best choice with the winters we have up here. but back to the car pc I gotta load up some pics tomorrow and hopefully everyone enjoys what I have accomplished so far. I'll have to post up on FA about solving the ipod connectivity ... not that I think many others will choose to go this route ... but I like it and I'm glad I did it. Pics will be up soon and then we'll see whats up next!

Hey Qfour5, I was gonna ask did you have any problems with the factory screen after the wires were extended or removed.... i was thinking of an Idea like that when I first had the Q but decided not too cause the large fusa block the screen, and I refuse to take it down lol

Qfour5
05-21-2009, 10:08 PM
Hey everyone sorry for not updating with the promised pics. I'll try to load them up over the next few days. I been busy just finished all my finals one of the reasons I didn't make it to the gotham BBQ, and work is super busy right now. So the pics will be up sometime soon. And Kyle the relocating of the factory screen was very easy compared to some of the other stuff I had to tackle. Its time consuming and frustrating but not very difficult. All I did was cut the factory harness/plug and leave enough wire on both ends (wire end and plug end), so you can solder what ever length of wire you want on to it. then you just have to deal with running the wires through the F50 not the easiest task to where ever you relocate the screen. Also our factory screen it very bulky and not the best screen or screenframe/surround to modify. If you look at the first pics I posted you can see that the wires all have a little piece of paper on the end of them. That was my label system so I didnt have to buy 22 or 24 different color wires. All I did was label what each wire conected to I can send you or post more details of exactly what I did to keep track of them. But once they are labelled and run all you have to do is reconnect them to the correct wires aka the same ones the other end is connected to. The hardest part wire-wise for this project was putting a lengthened wire from the screen control buttons to the touchscreenvery small wires and very delicate soldering was needed. Don't know if I have many great pics of that.

But a simple answer Kyle you can easily lengthen the wiring for the screen.

And everyone else more updated pics will follow shortly. I'm still having some trouble with ruinning movies through ride runner, the front end im using. All though they are running fine with centrafuse, so I might be switching over, still not sold on either one completely. But updates will follow and I think Im going to upgrade my stock sub just have to look into what "infinite baffle sub or sub and custom fiberglass box" will sound best. Definitely want to lend some more thump to my stock system. but for now I gotta get some sleep I'll try to update soon and keep everyone up to date.
