hello. so ive been searching for what makes a wheel 'vip style.' i am more experienced with wheels that are race inspired. so for my mr2, id look for wheels around the 16"-17" with flush offsets and staggered widths of 7.5" and 8.5" and lighter than 20lbs. that is what i am more oriented with. however, i seem to be clueless with what a 'vip' wheel is. is it the brand (volk, weds, works) that make it vip? because some of the wheels look like dub wheels such as giovanna, d'vinci, etc. ive searched the wheels and suspension area, but all i came up with are people asking if a specific type of wheel is vip or what sizes they should go with. mmm, so in short, what makes a wheel vip?

Fitment, class, and quality.

hmm.. so it would have to have the rights offsets, not be too over the top or daft, and be a name brand? sounds simple enough. but what makes it hard is that there are some wheels that fit those requirements that arent considered vip.

Such as?
Vip cars have been rockin' all sorts of wheels.
"L'habit ne fait pas le moine" aka "The hood doesn't make the monk" aka "The wheels don't make the car Vip....on their own"
You could get like, some Axis Penta with dish and set them flush with the fender and some stretched tires, black LS, luxury bodykit, and if you don't tell people they're Axis wheels, pretty much everyone will just go "damn, that's a hot Vip car"
The wheel companies that get "no-no" and "pooh pooh" from the Vip crowd usually have bigger problems than just style

Buy what makes you happy. It's your car, if you like it..then kickass! If we don't like it...who cares! You drive it.
Now as far as your question..I'll show you some examples of what I think are VIP wheels:

ohh.. for sure im going to be buying what i like. im in this hobby for me, not to impress u guys. i just want to keep it in the realm or as close to vip as possible. im not asking which wheels i should get, because my taste probably isnt the same as yours. i just needed a fell for what might be vip style. those pictures helped out. and that is soo true that it is how parts are executed that can make or break a car.

What year is your MR2? I can't imagine owning one and wanting to go VIP with it. ??? Not trying to be a dick, but why not mod the car to enhance its intended function? It's cool you're into VIP, but you gotta do it with the right platform. Sports cars are not one of them.

You can make ANYTHING VIP "Styled" but it won't really make it VIP itself. The whole platform issue is gay too. There are so many other cars with potential that get X'd out because a few guys on here say they aren't VIP. Of course yes, sports cars are not a VIP platform, but it doesn't mean you can't throw some VIP flair at it..it's his car to do what HE wants. Understand that I'm not attacking you..just putting in my $0.03

There are lots of S chassis cars getting the Vip influence (fitment, styling) and doing it well, while staying purposeful and sporty. It's not impossible to improve on the MR2's looks with a bit of Vip sourced inspiration

whoops! i forgot that im not well known enough for people to know what cars i have. lol. the vehicle im trying to vip is a 91 previa. i was just using my mr2 as a reference for what part of the tuner world im experienced with. sorry for the confusion. but my mr2 is a 91 and is set up for drag/ occasional track days. modifying to go faster is what im used to so thats where the lighter wheels/ stagger set up talk came from. :idiot2:

I have to say this, but it seems like this site is getting soft. I mean this site is for VIP cars . To me that is VIP platform cars. If you have
a different car* that is not considered VIP then s*** who cares mod to the VIP style accordingly. Dont turn a sports car into a vip and vise versa.
I constantly say that mod your car according to the lines and stlye of the vehicle. Its nice to have an VIP inspired or stlyed car , but know the difference.
THe reason I say this is that I start reading forums and some I like but then they get destoryed by
leaches, it is so true that one bad apple can ruine a bunch . and what I mean by that is
The people and you know who you are stop frunting* and proving everything* by trying to make any car VIP. Americans are allways robbing cultures of there
history* and flipping it into s***...Take the crossant for example French invention and distroyed by Americans by adding sugar and glaze and all sorts of stuff, the
point beeing.Lets stop destroying the TRUE JDM VIP style as it is excellent the way it is.
I here you on your question and I am not trying to attack you but just like I said it seems these days anything is VIP..if thats the case I am allready VIP and my car is done.
You see my point. I am sure there are other forums that cater to all sorts of cars, drifting, dub, lowrider* etc... this site happens to cater to VIP Cars and lets keep it that way.
I aint nobody special, but if this site continues* to keep getting softer.. I am done here and will graduate with a DR. in VIP..elswhere.
JZ3tt or what ever his name is here once* riped me a new ahole but I appreciate the dedication to the style he has and
It helped me think about some of the questions I had and search and research stuff before I just ask a stupid question that made me look like an
idiot..you dig.. Anyways my $.04 hahahaha not directed at you benz man.

i think the FABULOUS EXPAND
would look good on a mr2.

Actually the site is called VIPStyleCars.com
Nobody said its exclusively for vip platforms. Thats why we have Euro, Vans/Boxes, and Others subforums so people with those cars can still feel welcome. If he wants to mod his MR2 vipstyle then let him (Yes, i realise he is modding his previa). Mind you, at the end of the day though it would just look like a pimp-drift car (just like all the Silvias, skylines you see with crazy offsets and deep dish).
We are not getting soft on what makes a traditional vip car platform, well alot of us arent. Just let people mod their cars as they want, and know that there are others that appreciate true vipstyle cars (and notice the difference in the comments posted about their rides when they post them!)

YOu know what I trying to say Dominik..and I agree with you. But think about some of the posts
Axis VIP wheels *hhmmmmm or get some and dont tell people what they are and they will like it...
I think that the most knowledged on wheels will spot a fake in a heartbeat..its kinda like sporting a fake
ROlex and just cause you dont say anything about it you dont think a Rolex enthusiast will spot it...
If we are trying to style a VIP car then I think it should be with authentice VIP parts and not copies,,I mean thats why
I started to like the VIP scnene because you could stlye a luxury car so well and make it look like thats how it came from the factory.
But with good quality parts!
I will be the first to admit that my car is not no where near VIP . I bought a VIP emblem put it on and took it right off as I slaped myself
in the face saying that my car is not worthy of this emblem yet. I took off my CIMA grill and put the stock grill back as I thought the same ,
not worthy of this yet. One I get it slammed ,kitted and some better wheels and fitment I will not put that Grill or the emblem back on,
kinda a reminder that I have work to do. Once I am done those will be the finishing touches..THen I could glady say I am VIP and mean it.
Dominik
09-13-2006, 09:50 PM
Yes, well the VIP badge may have been pre-emptive, but not sure why you took the Cima grill off? Its just a grill!
Anyway, my point is that the last thing we want is to be a bunch of elitist pricks that flames anyone and everyone that asks a question; that doesnt help grow vipstyle. There are alot of people with non-vipstyle cars on here who ended up getting the real thing after hanging around here long enough and seeing what it was all about. Its all about educating. Not dictating!
Anyway, enough mindless chatter... Back on topic please!

Did take lots of months for that to even happen......... now you see even more and more crazy cars coming on here lucky no new sections for those.
it will get even softer on here then stronger when alot of true VIPcar guys dont even want to come on here and post. I dont blame them

YEs but the hardcore true VIPers will soon see this site as to soft & commercialized and probably stop posting here make another site that is even harder to find.
This is what I was affraid of..But I guessI could join a offroad forum and post pictures and ask if my Q is country hick yet. IT even has the lift to
prove it..hahahahaha..get my point..I am just saying that when I first saw this site it was all about VIP ..straight VIP platforms..now it just about any car being
VIP..or qutations like so "as long as you like it it is your car and who cares what we think" comments. IT defeets the perpouse of a forum, dont you think. Why post if thats
what your going to here. If we loose hard core VIPers then what will happen is newbies will be getting info from newbies and there will be no structure. People that are getting
hooked up on here will find that they loose there hook ups and will have to search elsewhere cause who want to be apart of a fake VIP forum..We need to Stop the soft talk and
let people know your real thoughts..C & C is ok..I believe you said that to me at one point..so we dont loose those more knowledged then us.
Maybe it wont happen but if it does just think about how you felt when the forum was down..it kinda sucked but life whent on. IT will be the same way here if the true VIPERS decide to split.

wtfuhh.. that's the kind of post i was talkin about showing a wheel and asking if it is VIP.. that stuff would annoy me too if people find wheels and ask if that style is vip. that really isnt learning. anyways, i wasnt trying to start a true vip vs. vip style thread. i just wanted to know what makes a wheel vip. in order for me to to become more knowledgable, i have to learn the barebones basics. a lot of the attitudes of the 'OG' members is really discouraging. im part of mr2oc.com, which is THE biggest forum for mr2s. and i guess we have the same problem there with the noobs. but instead of putting them down, we teach them and point them in the right direction. sooo yah. im not a noob to cars or car forums so please don't treat me like im totally clueless to the world. not aimed at anyone.. just a little rant. the end.

If for previa... there's been a few threads about what fitments to run for conservative, and also for "extreme".... there's one just right below this thread also I believe
