Ok maybe one of you can help me with this. I got my HID kit for my LX470 today and installed it.
NOw the Question goes like this. Is there a difference between a hologen projector and
a HID projector? IS the Arc the same? THe reason I ask is I know that like in the BMW's
as they are driving down the road the light changes from blue to purple to white ,,you guys know.
Anyways I believe that it is because of the prjector bending the light and produces those colors from the
color spectrum.... aaa right?..IS it true that the BMW uses a 4300k - 5000k HID bulb ? Once again leading on
to this QUestion. Does a halogen projector do the same? The reason I ask this is that* the kit I got was the same
as the Q,,phillips ballast with 8000k japanese bulbs but the Light is alot more purple seems darker and I was under the
impression that Projectors intensify the light output thus making it brighter..maybe I am wrong, however this is why
I ask is there a difference in the projectors..Could it be I need a retrofit to get optimal lighting. I thought the Lexus projectors
were supposed to be great .... I am confused.. I was trying to* achieve the brighter light and when ordering
I was going to go with the Philips 4300k Untiron bulb but decided that a little
more purple blue would look swell, It looks really nice coming at you a deep purple bluish.. but I did not realize I would sacrafice that much light output.
It is still alot brighter than halogen but not quite what I was expecting.

Does anybody know more about this. Maybe hahajoey he seems well educated in HID lighting..

Here's a quick way to check...drive up to a wall and see if theres a clear cut-off line for the light, and if the light color changes as it gets closer to the cut-off line. If all you get is blurry light output that's scattered, then you will need different projectors. Also your bulbs may not be made for a projector housing, causing your light to be all over the place.

Search the internet for HID discussions...especially VW forums. I remember reading some awesome posts on HID lightning.

oh dude..
well halogen projectors are made for halogen bulbs..
like some audi's and bmw's now with HALOGENS
still give a nice purple glare at angles right?
the reason is, the porjector is designed for halogens..
it gets the color at the exact spot it wants cuz it knows
where and how the hot spots are in the bulb...

same goes for a HID projector..
bmw or any other car maker can use a projector to output
a certain light on the road and a certain light that hits your face..
like some cars have more purple glare than others.. even though
the bulbs are the same...

if u put a hid retrofit bulb(like lets say hid kit into a 94 1st gen GS300)..
it'll be HID.. the cutoff might be decent, but its not gonna be as sharp
as like a projector running the correct bulb....
BUT, keep in mind, a lot of projectors out there aren't designed
with a super sharp cutoff to begin with..

my jdm headlights(94 gs300) have a pretty sharp cutoff...
and so when i threw in retrofit hid bulbs into them.. they still retained an ok
cutoff.. some companies(aftermarket) that make retrofit bulbs don't
spend the time and resources to get it dialed it.. like the don't put
the bulb and the base together at the exact same spot as a halogen..
so less or more glare would happen.. or less light output..
like the hotspot for the new aftermarket hid may not be in the perfect spot
where a halogen hotspot would be.. all these things can affect your light output..

does that help?? i hope it does

oh and for d2s and d2r...
d2r are designed for the most part to be used in a car
with reflector headlight technology..
d2s is mostly for projector applications...

that is on a STOCK from the factory setup.. not when u
start putting in aftermarket light systems..

http://faqlight.carpassion.info/images/PhilipsD2S.jpgD2s
which mean:
# D2S: Discharge second generation shielded
# D2R: Discharge second generation reflection

thats the different.. a metal like sticker on there to reduce glare..
now from what i've seen is, if u put a d2s bulb into a d2r car..
like lets say a d2s projector bulb into a 1st gen IS300(reflector)...
theres most light output and very little glare if any..
but some cars it might glare a lot and NEEDS a d2r bulb..
once again, depends on housing of the headlight.. u know?

The Cut off line is decent..not super sharp but enough I suppose..it is taking me some time to get use to these cutoff lines. never had it so
its kind of wierd..As far as the color aboive the cutoff line it does have it but with the light beeing so purple it is not as noticable when the stock halogen bulbs were
it there..I am thinking that what should do is to change out the bulbs from the 8000k to the Philips Ulitron bulb in a 5000k. I am sure the light output will be a lot
brighter and It should still have that nice look to it from the front. I hope, if not I think I will do a retrofit with the some HID projectors,,loking at Valeo bosch or the Acura
I been looking at this site
http://www.hidretro.com/
Seems like they do alot of retrfits..
Thanks Guys fir your input.

ahhh good thinking....
i never ran into that problem..
i have dealt with daytime running lights on a H4
setup.. they run the HI-BEAM at 7volts..
but since the hid kits are lo beams only..
it was no big thang..

glad you fixed your problem.. and i can keep that in
the back of my head incase i needa do that..
goodluck!
