I have been buying protein powder for as long as i have been weight lifting. I just ran out and want to try eating whole foods rich in protein instead of the mix. Im aware the powder has more than just protein that are essential in repairing/growth of muscle.
I plan on eating brown rice (not much...about a handfull) with either hard boiled eggs, salmon in a can, fresh chicken, beef, and tuna in a can. Any other form of protein am I missing as a meal right after workout? I plan on buying bags of almonds so i can munch on as snacks. My question to you all is will i get just as big as or bigger eating whole protein foods than downing the powder?

Agh i know quite a bit of info being that i work out when i can and my cousin is a meat head. TL what i can tell you that while the protien
powder helps in muscle growth, basically yea its a good source if you like to dish out for calories and carbs is basically a supplement
to keep it available the body so it can use it to build when stressed.
Now if you want to ah start concetration on foods that are in whole i would, certainly venture into that chicken and rice are rich in protien grilled chicken that is haha. But seriously though ahh if you can live without the powder then i would focus on eating the right stuff you can always cycle back.........

food for thought: the beauty of the protein powder is calories per serving, as generally it will be difficult to get the amount of protein for the amount of calories. most protein powders have somewhere between 15-25 grams of protein and somewhere around 120-200 calories.* trying to equal the amount of protein with regular food can be done, but at the expense of more calories.* for instance, a standard sized chicken breast (fat trimmed) may give you 10-15 grams of protein at the most, at about 300 calories or more.

It's temporoary..only while continued consumption occurs. So unless you're trying to have kids this very moment..you'll be just fine. When you need more boys to swim, just stop eating soy and soy products and you'll be good to go a few days or so after after it leaves your system.

It's all about eating right. I was planning on using whey protein powder until I read a few things about it. Sure it works and gives you results...well kindof. Think of high protein diet the same way you think about low carb diet...people thought it was great until the truth came out. So what's the best way to go? Try to consume a little more protein than you normaly would. Pretty easy to do...just replace pork with chicken breast, or better yet replace it with tuna. That stuff tastes like shit, but has very little calories, and quiet a bit of protein. If you eat in right proportions throughout the day (6 times a day), you will continue seeing results.
Now if you are trying to become a professional bodybuilder, then you definately should start consuming a lot of protein and work out 4 hours a day. If you just want to get cut while gaining some muscle mass, the proper diet is the only way to go. I am somewhat struggling right now because I am at a comfortable weight (183lbs 6' tall), but I could loose a little more around the gut area (only a 4-pack is showing :-\). The only way to do that is through proper nutrition.
Read up on powder vs natural protein by searching for articles on google. Plenty of info...don't read anything that advertises protein powder because obviously their answer will be biased.

i just bought 6 small cans of tuna in water. Actually I shouldn't be eating too much canned goods. Don't they have some sort of chemicals in there that preserves it and isn't healthful for us?? I'll just cut back on canned goods and eat more lean meat and stuff.

Hahahaha, I hope that was a joke. Soy does contain isoflavones which actually work to suppress your estrogen levels; but do you realize how much soy you'd have to intake in order to get bitch tits? I don't think anybody even knows the actual number; not one case has been recorded. People getting bitch tits are getting them from weasing the juice..that's all. Stay away from roids...and you'll be fine.
is there an article about soy could decreases sperm level in long term? ??? :crazy2:

protein powder is a supplement to a regular diet/meals, i.e. not to be used in place of every single meal. if you use it as your only source of nutrition, sure you'll have problems. if you use it in conjuction with a healthy balanced diet, you'll be fine.
