I just picked up a 1999 Q45t today, and so far I'm lovin' it! :smitten: But after taking it home from the dealer I realized that my rear sunshade doesn't work. I press the button up and down and I don't hear anything functioning. How many of you have experienced this and what steps can I take to troubleshoot the problem without having to take it to the dealership and pay an arm and a leg to repair it?

Probably you should do the following tests:
1) Check the fuse (if there's one) for the shade
2) Check if there's any power going to the motor that makes the shade go up and down
3) Check for any obstructions that prevent the shade from going up/down
4) If 1, 2 and 3 are OK then there's a good chance that the motor is broken.

ok, i got the shade working... well not 100%. the switch works, the motor works, but the shade will not go down :tickedoff: it just spins and sounds like a buzzsaw. could it be a stripped gear? anyone had to replace this? is it an easy fix?

theres a tsb about this problem where you replace like the button looking thing where the sunshade folds in. i forget what they call it.
either that or the motor could be out of time. does one side go down more than the other?

Neither side goes down at all, when you press the button the shade will stay up and makes a grinding noise. It's all good though, I ordered a manual for the car so whenever that comes in I'll just open up the rear panel and see what's going on. For the meantime, I just ziptied the shade back into it's cubby hole :P

you dont need a manual for that. remove the rear seats and c pillars. then remove the rear deck lid. then you can pull the whole sunshade assembly out. takes only about 10mins. to do it. real easy. sounds like the motor could be bad.
