so i put a garson shift knob on my car the other day and it came loose, i ended up pulling the whole shift knob off, but now i cant seem to unscrew the bottom (silver part) of the shift knob off. it turns back and forth about a 1/4 inch but it wont get any looser. to make matters worse i took some pliers and put a towel over the pliers and tried to twist it off but i ended up making deep scratches in the silver part, idk what to do. ive tried pulling it off over and hour and i cant. any hsuggestions?

I have the exact same shift knob. I had problems screwing the bottom piece would not screw back on. If you don't have the screws all the way it gets in the way so you have to screw them all the way in.

try to get at them on the inside of the knob, through the hole in the middle. If you can get to them with tweazers or really thin needle nose pliers try to slowly spin them in more and more so that the mounting screws are further in then they currently are. This is very tedious but if you can do it you should be able to get them in far enough to take the bottom piece off. Also try to have the bottom chrome trim piece in the middle of where you can spin it or all the way at the top it will make it easier if it isn't applying any pressure to the screws that are stopping it from comming off. If you install it again you might want to add some locktite blue (not permanent locking compound) on them or possibly some white teflon tape to keep them from back threading out again.
Hope this helps a little bit.

i had that happen its cause of the little lock screws are to far out against the bottom silver cap i took some needle nose and started turning those little screws till it gave slack and cleared the cap
