I think i have found my new favourite car.

This guy has possibly one of the hottest looking Cima's i have ever seen. I am all for 'tsuraichi' where the fender is flush with the lip; but after seeing his efforts i went out and tried to get my Y32 as low as his.

Unfortunately the tyre made contact with the inside of the doorjam before i could even tuck rim. This guy must have done some customisation!!

the best part about it? He's running coilovers...

Rear inner fenders definitely tubbed...(blue line = perimeter of tire, and pinkish line = appr shape of oem inner door panel taking into consideration the door flange)
I foresee a lot more cars (from Japan) going with radiused fenders within the next year (not just fender tubbing)... the wagon guys are sorta spearheading that movement right now, especially a lot of the new Estimas and Accord Wagons. With radiused fenders you can be super low, run big diameter wheels, and have the wheels still look flush, not tucked. This ultimately gives the illusion that the car was designed to be that low in the first place... instead of looking like you just tossed some high offset wheels on a car and just took the suspension off. And the car also looks a lot lower, flatter, and wider... MAJOR mod though.. esp when a rear door is involved.

I know what tubbing is, but could you explain more what radiusing the fenders is?

Yeah, i love that radiused or raised fender line look. There are a few VIP cars doing that over in Japan at the moment. And i agree it would be some major work to the rear door. The ones i have seen have completely reshaped rear doors. And you cant do that with fibreglass either...

But for some reason this car just looks so damn fat while still tucking rim (probably because he is tucking such a deep dished wheel.

Or maybe its just the fact that there are so many pics at different places showing that he drives like that - I always thought they just dumped it for shows!

No doubt the super tucked look is quite bad ass, too... esp when it's done right like this cima where the camber still allows the bottom edge of the wheels/tires to stick out past the fender... so it doesn't look hovercraft style where the wheels are super sunken in. But since ame asked about radiusing fenders, I went ahead and started a new post re: that here: http://vipstylecars.com/forum/index.php?topic=5256.0
Mike: Got some stuff to deal with, and gotta look for a new shop space too, but I'm really feening to work on a previa again... driving mine back in stock form around is fun and all, but sorta blah. That and I'm also itching to take some more measurements for a custom IRS cuz that really is going to be our only saving grace to get the low offset wheels in the rear!

Well, i have been chatting to him, and the rear arches are just hammered out where it hits... - no cutting at all.

I think the reason i like the way this car looks when tucked is because the wheels are actually very low offset - these pics below shows that at regular height it is what we would call 'flush'... its just that he keeps lowering it!!

what a great car!... most beautiful VIPcar I have ever seen
even on the lift the car still looks insanly low with suspension hanging down

btw this thread solved the mystery of how to jack up a car that low for me too
