So, I'm moving to Dallas in a couple months, and I've never even been there (oh shit) I'm gonna do a scouting trip down there at the end of March, but I have a shitload of researchin to do!!!!
What neighborhoods are the best to live in? Where should I stay away?
Where do all the VSC-types hang out? Places for stretch tires, alignments for low cars, installers, etc....! How're the roads out there ?

Are you set on living in dallas or the dfw metroplex is fine? Trying to live in a apartment or a house?

Do you have a job lined up already? Might want to live somewhat close by to your work.

I'd stay in SF too lol, but the CA economy sux. There's mucho $$$ to be made in TX. Can't pass it up. My wife and I are trying to get in on it while it's still good and before TX gets saturated. It seems like there's a flood of east and west coasters moving in....
My wife has a few jobs lined up already, and I might be able to work from home, so really we're open to any area, so we don't mind commuting up to an hour if we can live in a cool city.
Anyways, we are probably gonna stay with a friend in Uptown (?) until we get a feel for the DFW area. We're probably looking to rent for at least a year.
Basically, if you could live anywhere in DFW, regardless of where you worked, where would it be? why?

lol "rich" in texas is a lot cheaper than california. you can get a really nice house for under 300k.
california poor is texas rich, and texas rich is more relaxed than california... anything. lol
bang for buck, texas rules! hell. texas rules period. =)

Why is this true?
food women opportunity.
the entire oil business is based out of houston, save for a few in denver, and we are the base for multiple international energy corporations.
we have cheaper housing.
we have better food.
houston is large, but easier to get around than the dfw metroplex.
america's fattest city for a reason, we got the good stuff.
only big down side can be summed up in one word, nola. but if you stay out of the hood you should be fine.

Good reason to take a trip to Houston :) I will def check it out. I am of the philosophy that every town has its pluses and minuses, and no one place can truly be better than another -- otherwise I'd never leave the Bay j/k.
Sooo back to topic, anyone actually know anything about Dallas lol? Houston or Austin or San Antonio or whatever isn't an option for me....

Just got back from 3 days in Dallas. Folks are hella friendly down there!
I stayed in downtown right where Erykah Badu took off all her clothes lol. It's weird how the streets everywhere are empty. Hardly any pedestrians even in the urban areas.... For work stuff, we drove all over DFW to random little towns... Burleson, Benbrook, Balch Springs, Coppell, Carrollton, Irving, Ft. Worth.
We're probably gonna stay in Uptown near the West Village at first, then move out to a suburb later on once we get a better feel for the area.... Despite the slight douchiness of Uptown and the annoying college kids, there're really no better place more centrally located and convenient.
Who knows the good spots to eat at? Not fancy dining, but good daily grindz...
I only got the chance to eat at Alligator Cafe (good gumbo!), some random spot called Hook, Line & Sinker and a pizza joint called Campani's (?).

theres a good cheap fast food burger place called burger street. i hit it up everytime i go to dallas. its usually the one on mockingbird ln (off 75). nothing really special but its good for fast food.
i notice and it bugs me everytime i go to cali, that no one in is friendly. everyone here is friendlyish to each other. i like that. about tx. i dont think ill ever leave here no matter how much i like it anywhere else lol.
GL in dallas. hope yall like it.

Uptown/West Village area is a good happening spot to live in. Some slight douchey behavior but it's not bad. Stuff in Dallas is really spread out if you live in the suburbs.
Check this out for some good dallas info:
