View Full Version : Tuck and Shave Thread
(no homo)
i've pretty much sold myself on the idea of a wire tuck, bay shave, a/c & abs delete, etc. on my g50.
i know this has come up in a couple threads but i'd like to have a single thread dedicated to the subject. let the pics and dicscussion begin.
now me personally, i can kind of figure out how things should be done but i could use some pointers on the specifics. how to delete the abs/ac, wiring/fuse relocation, etc. let me see what you've done and a little on how you did it. in progress pics would be great.

What are the main problems of tucking? I've heard ppl having all kinds of issues tucking and stuff.....but I don't know what those are.

a lot of problems are caused by half assing stuff. granted you're always going to run into problems with mods of this nature one way or another, but if you do it properly, i.e. properly soldering and heat shrinking when extending the stock harness and not just half assing it by just moving around the stock harness, you minimize any issues you may run into.
as for locations, i know a lot of honda guys move their main fuse and relay boxes into the glove compartment. i don't know what the g50 is like though, so i can't really suggest more than that.

The g50 would be a huge ass headache to tuck. That car has like 12309812093 wires and hosing around that engine bay.
not really, theres a bunch of hoses and wires but they're already pretty much tucked under the im.

i'm gonna start on this pretty soon. power steering, abs, wipers, and brake booster will be deleted. i'm going to try and keep the ac if it doesn't take away from the look. battery and fuse block relocated. intake, electric fan, and aluminum radiator. seems pretty straightforward to me.

Not all hondas.
I moved most of our project car fuse box parts into the fender.

just get the ac lines rebent for a cleaner look. this is houston, a/c is a must, it's only in the high 80s and i'm already losing weight through sweat. :signdammit:
if not for the a/c, just for the gangsta-ness of getting new a/c lines, just to have em. :giggity:

I shaved the bay in my GTI. Biggest problem was finding all the best places to run wiring, vacuum lines, etc and then extending it all to fit and doing it properly. I also installed a custom turbo kit and redid the entire engine management on the car so that made it a little easier. I REALLY want to do this to a Big Body one day!!

My buddy and I did a semi-tuck on his first gen xB. Turned out really nice. Use adhesive lined heatshrink if you need to resolder wires together. We had to cut a bit out of the harness because it was ran so long. We did the whole thing pretty much one at a time. Label each wire on each side of where you'll cut. Use numbers and letters. That all kind of goes without saying.
I agree with the A/C. I'd keep it and I live in Utah. It's cold 9 months out of the year. I'd ditch the window wiper motor (kind of an eyesore), ABS has got to go, and maybe a nice polished aluminum power steering resevoir.
Concerning the ABS... The booster appears to have two lines coming out of it. More than likely, one for front and one for rear. You could omit the entire ABS module by just bypassing it. You can probably get raw brake line and fittings from a local auto supply store, or even a hose and rubber supply store. I have buddies that have done this on fullsize Chevy trucks with no problems.
Could run the wire inside the top of the fender, down through the side of the firewall. I'd probably weld a bolt, where you'll run the wire, then use a P-clamp to secure the harness. There's a lot of options.
i'm probably going to go a different route, however i will touch up some stuff. my abs isn't going to work anyway with my new differential (actually it never worked but now there's no chance) so i will remove that. i still may convert to manual steering since mine doesn't really work and i like the way it drives. ac will stay intact and i'm not going to sweat the bay too much. thanks for the feedback.
wiretucks are not rain friendly unless you move everything ( fusebox, battery ect.) inside of the car.
I used to do it to s13 & s14 chassis but i would hide the fuseboxes inside the dash.
you can keep AC and your brake booster power steering you just have to extend the wires and re-route them.
AN-+ fittings will be your friend and braidedlines (brake lines and booster lines)
It will get costly after a while.
one question. wire tuck requires to remove wires and make the harness small as possible(wire wise) wouldnt thatm mean on these lux car doin that you are goin to have to cut some of the wires that are needed to keep those luxuries?
good thread.
at the time i wasn't thinking too much of a "luxury" build, but like i said i changed directions. even so it's a 1990. not a whole lot of the stuff you find on '10 cars.
