Hey guys,

So I am quite new to the car audio scene, and I would like some feedback from some audio veterans here on VSC.

So I was at a audio shop and looked over some of their products available. The audio shop recommended me to this setup:

Alpine Amp (not sure which, but they said it was the newest).
Focal 165krx3
Focal component (the cheaper ones, probably vr ones)
JL 10w7 x2
A new single din head unit, either Alpine or Kenwood ones.

The total setup with installation is pretty high and about to break my wallet, so before I actually do this setup I would like some feedback. Yes, I've heard the quality of this setup and it is good to my ears. I've also heard the Focal be series and I cannot justify spending more more for a tad bit more clarity.

So what do you guys think? thanks in advance:biggthumpup:

I've been doing audio for quite some time. The Focals are great components, but there's so many brands out there. Depending on the car, and the sizes you can fit without modification (pending if you want to modify), you could run other brands. You could look into Hybrid Audio Technologies component sets. Even their lower lines are very nice. Alpine makes pretty nice amplifiers. Their newer ones, the stackable ones, would be an install perk. They don't take up a lot of space, and they sound good.
Why is it that you're opting for a pair of JL Audio 10W7's? They're great subwoofers, but there's honestly better out there for much less. You could look into Sundown Audio's SA-12's, SSA Icon 10's, Fi Audio SSD's, or even Fi Audio's Q series subwoofer.

The SQ setup I'm planning for my Y33 will consist of a single Fi Q 15, Sundown SAZ-1000D, Sundown SAX-100.4d, and I'm not sure about components... Maybe Dynaudio. Look for more dealers around your area/s. I know of a few guys up in the Tacoma Washington area that would probably give you a demo.

hey, thanks for your feedback/help. Honestly, I have no clue as to what to pick as I am a noob to audios. But I trust my ears as they don't lie. The JL 10w7's are what the shop refer me to as I have no clue. But if there's something else out there that is cheaper and better than I'd want to hear them:D

So what shop in tacoma you refer me to? thanks again for your help:D

mainly, i want something sounds good and a bit customization yet still have that oem look. not looking into something too crazy.

Not a shop, mostly a guy I know up there. He's in the Port Orchard area, but he can build you an enclosure no problem.

As far as a substage, it really depends on how loud you want to get. What vehicle is this going in? Do you want something really loud, something clean, or a combination of the two?

nothing wrong with any of that equipment but unless they're really hooking you up you could do better for the price i'm positive.

what car is it going in and what's your budget? that's the best way to get recommendations. i may be able to hook you up with a dealer/rep for some high end brands that will ship but you'll be on your own for an installer.

the downside is that high end gear is hard to audition. being in cali may help though.

oic, how is his work?

mainly, I want something in between. Clean yet bangs, but not over. Don't know if that makes sense, lol.

thanks again.

Definitely makes sense. I make speaker enclosures, actually finishing up a dual 18" enclosure for my buddy's Durango. Have a single 10" enclosure to build tomorrow.
If shipping wasn't so ridiculous, I wouldn't mind building and shipping enclosures.

His work looks pretty alright. I've never personally seen it, but from the pictures I see on forums looks nice!

^^Know what you mean. First things I ask a potential client are exactly what you asked. My time has been wasted plenty of times. Hate it when people ask you for advice, then purchase sub-par equipment for more.
