anyways. bought a miata while i was home for a few months in between japan and saudi so id have a long term project. did a few drift days, some other stuff, but really, story is i built the car in about a week and a half from start to finish. only thing I didnt do personally was the V mount setup, that was being done at the same time by a friend cause i didnt know how long i would be home for

I bought it stock except a turbod 1.8 swap in it. other than that, nothing else as you see here

lots and lots of body work
lots and lots of wheel fitting and makign shit fit
flocked interior parts for glare reduction

wideband, boost gauge, stereo, some wiring stuff, fixing a bunch of bad stuff..

^^^I agree, maybe with just some pocket flares. Although I am sure you like/wanted the full flare look which is all good. That thing is a serious improvement over the first few pictures. I love these things with wide wheels and a roll-cage, its almost all they need.

plus, the passenger rear quarter was toast, main reason as well.
But, this isnt a DD. its a race car, thats it. If i WANT to drive it on the street i can, but its SO not practical anymore, that its rediculous. I cant get in the car without the top down.. i have to go in through the top of the cage. rain? i have to wait it out or park under an awning. there is NO ac, heater core has one speed on a switch, and hte blend doors are moved manually by a cable. entire chassis is reqired to only 8 circuits or so. its about reliability, and raw v8 power.

Wow Grant..for you...this seems so...gay. Just puttin' this out there first, because someone had to say it.

Then again, you'll make it work. I'd agree that flares would have been enough, but if a quarter panel needs to be fixed, why not go aftermarket. I do like the diamond racing wheels though...cheap wide/light wheels that work, and don't look horrible. I'd say paint it khaki with some Krylon Fusion. That why when you bust the body kit like all drifters do, you can fix it on the cheap! And it'll look cool.

How is the weight distribution with the 302 in the front? Does the car understeer when you're sliding off throttle? I always wanted to build one of these too, but I was going to experiment with using the SVO 4cyl turbo (2.3) instead of the 8cyl (5.0) because I wasn't sure about the weight distribution with the v8. Esslinger makes some pretty badass parts for that 2.3 SVO motor, can get into the 350-400whp range pretty reliably, and I felt like that motor has a flatter torque curve than some of other boosted smaller displacement motors from other makes (so better throttle response for drifting). I believe the 2.3 uses the same motor mounts and T5 transmission as the 5.0 so should fit that crossmember. Anyway, I'm rambling ... and you can never beat the sound of a v8, especially when it's cammed.... good stuff ....
