I was actually curious about the same thing. I did a bit of research and I'm pretty sure it's a full controller. Probably something like this:

I know there's an older Eclipse with a full array that's all DIY and nuts.

Found it:

would be nice if someone produced/imported some of those modules at a reasonable price. i don't know of anything on the market over here on that level. you can diy with micro controllers and a gang of work, but i'm not 100% on the details.

Gang of work is definitely the issue with most DIY'ers.

I love the stacking turn signal effect.

Brokey's has a pretty neat pattern that lights up.
The new mustang tails also have a different type of turn pattern

I'll be messing w/ these ideas when I start my project shortly

I just do not understand at all how that works period. How you would program it, ect... i'd be happy with sequential.

I'm not sure how it would work. I work for the local transit company, and I see a lot of the LED signs/controlers/etc that they use on the buses. I'd assume something similar to that.

These tails are so damn dope! looking into some for my car too.. but the only bad part majority of the auctions are only selling a service you gotta send your stock lights in  ... but for sure there are some already made :giggity: ready to ship. Those are the ticket

Might not work on the oem Nissan led tail because those leds are sharing one complete circuit board for the upper led section.

These super crazy retro fitted tails are individual leds grouped and managed with a programmable controller

I figured as much.

I actually made a great set of tails for the g50 but I can't figure out how to get them to work in the g50 electrical system. The problem is that the message center says tail lights are inop and won't send a signal to them because the current draw of the filament bulbs is what it is looking for. I tried load resistors and it still didn't work. Does anyone know how they do the LED tails in Japan??

you have to calculate the resistance of the board and then add resitance inline to match oem specs.

I was hoping there was a way to bypass all the stupid failsafes but I couldn't figure that out either. Maybe someone else has tried to make some and can chime in?
