doesn't it play dvd's, stock? can't you just cut the purple wire and ground it separate or something?

Its a digital terrestrial TV receiver unit that plugs into the VTR mode of the Genuine navigation unit.
It says it cannot be connected to the Mark Levinson sound system.

If yours does not have a VTR input mode, then i suspect this will not work - it only includes regular RCA cables for connection. I am guessing yours needs a piggy-back dongle that plugs into the back of the nav unit.

what is VTR mode? what does it look like? is this basically just a TV tuner?

i recently purchased a J52 cable that plugs into the rear of the nav unit... the other end is a set of RCA cables, but this alone doesnt work.

you say it only includes a regular RCA cable... what is all the other stuff?

also, i dont have the Mark Levinson system, so that is a plus.

what i wanna know is if this will just provide an auxilary input to plug in a DVD player or perhaps some game console.

My bad, it does come with external input cables. It comes with:
OneSeg TV Tuner module
Remote control
Remote control receiver unit
Power cable
AV Cable
Film antennae
Relay plug
External Input harness
Installation instructions
User Manual
Warranty sheet

It says it connects to the VIDEO (VTR) mode of the unit, so if you already have this button on your screen then you cannot install it (because that means you already have another input unit fitted)

I think the problem will be that this VIDEO button is displayed/hidden by the TV tuner. Without the TV tuner, it wont appear....

fawk! i was hoping this would work for us over here. only option right now to add an aux video input is about $800+ which insane. the other option hacks into the camera input but displays the CAUTION message when backing up.

thanks for the help fellas.

there's digital cable and theres satellite and then regular basic cable.

i know there are satellite systems you can install in your car using your home service. how would the digital cable one work?

when you are plugged into a socket in your garage? LoL

Australia has digital free-to-air TV for a while now. Not sure if its the same as Japan (I doubt we would be ahead of them at anything :)), but apparently it gives better reception in car applications than regular TV tuners.
