Apparently the dorifto scene has caught up with VIP. On the 60 freeway going East today, I saw a very ratty looking half primered 240sx, and stock rims with a white Junction Produce Fusa. The Fusa was the brightest item on that entire car.
So, what is really happening here? identity crisis? :buck2:

JDM fever if you ask me...
The person saw that Junction Produce was JDM and thought his/her car would be JDM if he/she put it in?
Or maybe they just liked fusas....

don't worry, fusas were already played out in the VIP world... I am sure the guy thinks he is on the breaking edge of something that nobody else knows about... ::)

in the quest to become JDM some people just make themselves look like dumbasses.
Think that we need to set em straight?* :knuppel2: Lol

I actually thought of putting a fusa in my car...for about 3 seconds. I think my blue dragon air freshener suits my stock econoboxness much better :(

Actually, VIPstyle drift is very popular in the US and Japan (for quite sometime). IMO, I think it's a perfect blend of sport (the drift car) and class (the VIP car). In some ways, some "drift" cars (S14's, S15, S13's AE86's) are more "VIP" than some of the VIP sedans I've seen.
I wouldn't confuse the two however, I give the VIPdrift guys alot of props. So next time try to understand.* There's a fusion between the two cultures/styles that we all can benefit from and appreciate.
Case in point: A friend of mine (CleanS14's 240sx): http://www.driftunit.com/photos/photoshoot/jay ... it's clean, subtle, agressive and classy at the same time. Sharing similar characteristics as a VIP sedan don't cha think?
But of course... any car can look like ass if it isn't done right..... haha

That was the exact case, thus the starting of this thread.
No half primered car shall be spotted on public roads!
^unless it was a dd and the owner was inbetween processes. :)

and may the dillution of the term take place.... this has been predicted a long time ago. ALthough many I know of will openly admit as with myself.... that there are many interesting concepts and cues that we take from the traditional Japanese VIP culture to enhance our own style.... I wouldn't consider myself a true VIP style car, but as the popularity takes place..... many mods and cues will be dilluted to other styles and then you have the automatic generic branding such as "JDM".... it has only begun!

That generic branding is what I hate. I don't mind seeing elements from other styles cross over into the more popular market as long as people realize what the true root was. I go bananas when I hear somebody talk about how JDM their USDM Civic is because they have red Rotas and no bodykit...they just don't get it. Same with Vip soon. Already people see a japanese sedan with large wheels and it's automatically Vip for them.
It's a "lost in translation" problem really

that 240 you posted looks awesome VIPete.... but in regards to VIP characteristics.... it might have nice offset and wheels.... but in regards to VIP... i think a 240 could never commit itself to a VIP standard... simply b/c its angles are already sporty. It lacks that same aura that a true VIP car has.... However I think that 240 is a perfect example of blending styling cues from other car cultures..... every car culture does it whether they consciously know it or not....
I only wish my 240 can look like that.... still working on the suspension..... next = engine!!!

This S14 might be a little closer...
a little bit more blurring of the lines between vip and sport.. but it's still more sport than vip
BUT, alas, more vip than most "vip cars" in the US

Wow, I love those taillights....I've always thought the rear of the S14 was it's weak point in styling but that solves that problem very elegantly!
A Silvia coupe or Zenki S14 are as close as a Nissan S-chassis can get to Vip though, and it's still not real Vip. Of course, I still think that pretty much anything looks good with Vip influence.

I've noticed I've seen more fusa in Scions than anything else..
