My y31 cima vg30det has blown its turbo, bought a new turbo but is gonna cost an arm an a leg to get fitted as it's in a bitch of a place to get at an will have to remove the engine to bolt it on. So my question is, what other size turbos will fit onto the engine vg30 or should i jus chuck a whole new engine in there like an rb26det. Help please.

I suppose it all depends on your budget.* If you are worried about it costing an arm and a leg to get the stock turbo replaced then the RB26DETT is most likely not in your budget.* Replace the stock turbo. Look at NICOclub.com and see if anyone has a good idea for what would be a good replacement.* Here is the VQ forum;* http://forums.nicoclub.com/zeroforum?id=132*

However, if you are just looking at this as an opportunity to make yourself poorer, then I say go for a swap.* The RB or VQ35 would be a lovely conversion to see done on one of those cars.* More issues....* *Do you plan on paying someone? Can you weld?* Are you good with wiring?* Do you have any experience building a custom project like that?

I can afford to replace the factory turbo its gonna cost a bit but i can manage it but i was thinking since the engine has to come out anyway why not throw something better in there, RB26DETT sounds like a plan aye just wondering what else would be needed as i have no experience in any of the fields you listed so i would get a proffesional job

Well in that case all you need is money, but just so you know here are some of the things that a fabricator/ mechanic are going to have to do for you.*

Make a set of engine mounts
modify or swap your front crossmember
make all new intercooler and associated tubing/piping
possibly modify oil pan
new custom driveshaft

Wiring is gonna be a complicated proceedure if you are trying to keep all of your current creature comforts and you should also be aware that you will have to swap to an RB25 tranny as the 26's tranny is set up for AWD.* Guys in the 240 community are lucky enough to have people offering kits now.* You wont be so lucky.*

I would expect any shop to charge a premium cost for this swap and I would not be at all suprised if you found yourself spending 6 grand just to get the engine in your possesion.* Then what?* You have a decent amount of power and blinging set up but for the money spent, you will kick yourself for not just upgrading the turbo on your current (more torquey) motor.* Upgrade your turbo.* Check those VQ forums i posted a link to.* There are people there building your engine who could help you decide what turbo to go with.

Cheers man that helped alot as I have no idea bout this sorta thing, I'll check out those forums as ya said but it's a VG engine not a VQ but I'm sure they'll be able to help me out an yeh just go for the bigger turbo option as it'll most probably be best in the long run yeh? Once again thanks man.

My apologies.:-[* I missread your origional post....* VG30 not VQ.* Still same advice applies I think.* There are plenty of good turbo's out there for VG motors.* Another usefull place to look would be www.turboneticsinc.com* *They have a lot of technical info like compressor maps that could help you find out what turbo would be best for your motor.* It gets a little techy but it is worth looking into if you are to make a truly educated decision on wich turbo to run with.* Also, I imagine that any 300zx forums would be helpfull to you on your search as well.*
