What's a good exhaust for my Q45(Y33). I just wonder what others are using. I don't want my car to sound like a Chevy truck on flow masters, but at the same time I don't want it to sound like a Honda either, somewhere in the middle I suppose. Any input would be appreciated.

Go with custome 2.5" Piping from the cats back (or eliminate the cats or get hi flow cats) all the way to the http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/shopexd.asp?zone=main&id=625
its part number 14468 then select the type of tip that you want. You are done should run about 600 bucks plus tips for all the work if yu get mandrel bent tubing. I would suggest that you consider getting some resonators to help control the drone. I did on my SC and its sounds great but i use an Aero Turbine muffler

Ya, magna flow was what I was thinking of using. Just didnt know what it would sound like coming from a Q. My homeboy has one on his Hemi C and it sounds cool. I can build the piping myself so I have an advantage there. Ill weld it all up out of premade bends. I was just wondering what muffler sounds good on a Qs motor. Didnt really want to do the trial and error thing. Thats alot of work.

3" piping is usually reserved for turbo cars. Too big of a size and you loose back pressure...I know people say that more air you can move out the more air you can force into the engine...but it's productive up to a certain degree. I think 2.5 is the max.
For local companies you can try JIC exhaust (~$800). Or have one shipped from overseas.
Zion97 has redone his whole exhaust system with custom piping and eliminating few pieces. PM him and get an audio clip of what his car sounds like.

Sup GermanFolks...
Here is my exhaust..sound sample,,and sounds way better in person believe me.

Its a CatBack System.
1) Eliminated Both Resinators
2) Elimintated that Big ass Muffler by the back bumper completely.
3) Added 2.5 Piping from cats to Two Race Series Magnalow Muffler that replaced the two in the middle section.
4) 2.5" Piping all the way to back with 2 4" tips.
Done..........
The way I came up with this is that my buddy runs a exhaust shop and we started by just replacing the two middle mufflers. Not loud enough. Then we eliminated the rear muffler and better but not what I wanted just yet. Next we Eliminated the front two resinators and added 2.5" all the way through crossing over with an x pipe..and finally a sound that was dreamy..hahaha.
FALK who was a member of this forum (but not anymore) Heard mine and did it two his but with 18" x 4" truck tips but he left his resinators on and the rest the same.

WOW! That sounds nice! Does it sound beefier (Thoatier) in person?
I've been comptemplating exhaust for my Y33 but I want mine to sound like the Junction Produce exhaust. I want people to be like "Damn his car sounds mean" There's a aristo out here in San Diego that has a JP exhaust w/ B-piping that has the best sounding exhaust out here that I've heard! I drool every time I here it!

Yeah it sounds beefier in person..Not like a Mustang or muscle car though. It has a unique sound, especially when you are driving..I have had someone tell me it sounded like a sporty european car, ..The sound is no where near what a 4 banger Honda with a big ass tin can on it either. I can't say that the set up I have is THE best for the Q but, I know what sound I like and I have had nothing but complaments on the sound...good luck on your exhuast as well bro..
Oh yeah you could allways go with BORLA thier exhaust is usually pretty loud..Not sure I would wan't it that loud though..There was another dude on here with an F50 wiht an impul exhuast and that was super loud..

Eastside Performance
Dude is cool and know is shit..won't sell you what you don't want or need..Hes not a sales person rather he's a person with knowledge..maybe you know him he used to work at exhaust works..I have done my 98 suburban there with him using dual flowmasters and with this we decided to go with dual mags.
Champine Performance And Exhuast is also a great place to go..He is more into MUscle cars but his work is also very good. HE used to be the manager at Exhaust works on Broadway..Good luck to you to.

Yeah I am familiar with Justins work. I'll have to give him a call. ThxThanks- (arigatou)

hehe its sorta loud , but it belongs in the old school view of VIP tuning. You guys need to watch the VIP CAR X dvd and see the Garage Magical Cimas they sound just as loud as my car or louder! Also my car at idle isn't very loud at all.

Many people have done this and been very happy with it. It's cheap yet effective. the sound is great. Also a vid.

I went with the stillen rear can with similar results. IMO there is no use in redoing the whole exhaust to achieve a nice throaty sound with these cars. Hope this helps.
