This isnt a DUB forum....it really is about wheel fitment.yes i know this, but if a set of 20's with a 30 series tire sits a half an inch lower than my 19's ,i rather go bigger ,not just so i can run ''DUBS''. going bigger without oversizing and still having clearance when dropped is my idea of wheel fitment.
Caoboy
04-13-2007, 05:39 AM
reason people are saying it's not a dub forum, is this style leans toward max fitting wheels for the car. if you can run a 20x8 up front and a 20x9 in the rear why not? it will give you more lippage, and the wheels can still tuck if needed, depending on how low of an offset you go. sunken wheels don't ever look good, and that's how most dub cars come off, so that's why people are saying don't get dub styled wheels (meaning widths/offsets)

And that's why I'm afraid to say, you don't "get it" yet.
Tucking big is DUB. Vip takes aggressive fitment.
FWD is no excuse, just look at all the Scions and Fits. Besides, you're not S.O.L. if you can't be bothered to make big lips fit (I know I can't). Lots of wheels look good by making the most of a high offset.

what i dont get? because the fact that im on a vip website that i might just have non vip ideas. so what.... im not trying to jump on the bandwagon...o.k. im just trying to combine a few styles from my years of customizing cars and make my own style.
besides... over half the cars on this site a tuckin a big rims in the fender. i guess their not VIP either.

No,not really what I mean, but it sounds like you're not willing to do Vip styling...I'm not understanding why you want to tuck 20s instad of go low and flush on 18 or 19...that sounds exactly like Dub mentality...and since stance pretty much is the backbone of Vip...I don't get it.
Have you got other plans?

Do you know what he has done in order to make those wheels fit well? Notice how low he is, yet he isnt tucking any rim?
Both front and rear fender arches have been cut and raised (several inches) to allow the car to be slammed without hiding the wheels. Over here we call that 'radiusing fenders' and its the reason we give that car mad props.
See, the problem with putting 20s on your acura (actually with alot of cars, but particularly this car), is that you will have ALOT of air under your car at the point where the wheel sits "flush" with the fender. I've seen quite a few acuras with 20s and they look like donk cars that you can practically walk underneath them. So... If you want to look LOW and still flush, then get 19s, or even 18s. If you want to tuck at least 1" of rim (front and back), then go ahead with the 20s.
Seems alot of people are getting 20s just as an excuse to avoid going low.

if adding 20's would raise my car more ,i would not do it. i said it at the start of this thread ... a 20 with a 30 series tire will actually measure an half a inch lower from the top of the tire to the ground than my 19's . i promise you im not some dub guy just trying to put 20's so i dont have to go low. i have coilovers now and cant wait to see how low i can go with 20's and still drive.

With that attitude, you should be fine with 20s.
The reason some people (well, me at least) are buggin' is that it seems that the whole 'flush' concept seems to being lost in translation. People taking photos of their car on the side to show that the wheels are flush to the fender, yet still have 2" fender gap and 0 camber. Then there is the idea that because 20s/21s are popular in Japan now, its ok to rock them and sit flush without lowering.
The trend in Japan is now all about being low. Who can be the lowest, who can fit the largest wheels without sacrificing lowness... Thats why tucked is ok now, because it means you can go lower (and it makes the car look very low to tuck rim)
aftermathacura
06-12-2007, 03:28 PM
well if the trend in japan is just now ...all about who can be the lowest and pimp the biggest wheels .......crazy to say that we over here in the states been doing this one long before japan.
Caoboy
06-12-2007, 09:31 PM
we may have been 'tucking' longer, but they fit wheels under their car that most people here would scoff at. 20x12 -xx for example, is something that people in japan would run, radius the fenders, and still make it look like a stock body (fenderwise) car. they tuck the tire and get that 'tsuraichi' (sp) effect, and making us still look like retards who don't know what we are doing. they are always one step ahead of us, the trendsetters for what we follow when it comes to vip style.
if you want to go with 20's and still tuck, be prepared to pull your fenders (if you want a decent sized rim/lip) and prepare to maybe have to bang out your fender wells ( to stop rubbing).
more likely than not, with that you are on coilovers, you will end up keeping some bit of gap. it happens, to stay safe. most guy's you see that are on 20's and up are on air suspension, and have 'extensive' mods here.
in japan, it's way more extensive, and only the best of the best here can accomplish what we all love to see.

if your not gonna make it fit how it should
get 18s or 19s
But then you also have to take into account, if your this low, will teh 19 diameter over hte 18 rub more stuff?
will the 20 tear off your bumper once your suspension compresses
people dont think about these things when they look at wheels
you need to take some more time and measure everything, test fit things, see what will work, what wont
FOr my application anything bugger than 18s wouldnt let me be as low as i wanted.

I understand the statement about wheel fitment on a FWD car and all but I also understand that part of this style is going outside the conventional fitment of wheels and striving for that perfect fitment and stance, which is along the lines of what you see on Yokotas13's ride. There are a few people on here with FWD cars that have successfully pulled off this step in attaining a VIPstyle ride. Don't think these guys are really degrading you they are offering advice which is part of why we are here.
And guys, let's not forget that everyone doesn't either get, or need to subscribe to the style, if they believe they have achieved the fitment they wanted and are happy with it then that's all that matters, but there is no harm in letting them know that this means their ride isn't VIP or VIPstyle because of it, just not in a mean way either! Either way I still like your Acura!!!!
