View Full Version : 91 Toyota Cressida VIP POTENTIAL?

My friend is selling his 91 Cressida for dirt cheap and i was wondering if anyone has any pictures of a Cressida done up. Or if there is a sikk kit for it? It KINDA reminds me of a crown. But i do have a vision of it bagged on some crazy-dished out wheels!!!

Similar to Camry...you should check out mtimmons' thread in the Toyota section - the same advice would probably apply but the Cressida can do deeper wheels

They make cool drift cars, but not VIP cars. I have a few friends with them with aero, front end MKII conversions, etc. They look nice, but not very VIP, but they can be done VIP "styled". I hate that term already.

My friend has A Cressida with a 1JZ and I think it could get some VIP Styling going with the right setup. But yeah they do look alot like camry's of the same year.
Bozos don't drift, they block traffic, rev their engines, and dance around like monkeys
I love the monkey dance, plus they try to keep in rhythm with the revving its dope.
D.
with the right front end (Mark II for the same year) and the right JDM tailights, yes, you can VIP this car. Damicci, remember the VIP cars off of your magazine? The Mark II (JZX80) was dope.

He means like this (which is what I stated earlier):

http://www.finalkonnexion.co.jp/english/lineup/popup/toyota_img/toyota_img_01_b.jpg
There's several done like this in the US. Most of them drift. The right wheels would have set this off WAY more.
yep, that's what I ment. It still looks like a slimer version of a 1st Gen Celsior. The only reason a lot of people rather drift this cars is because of the fact that they are 4 doors and they're still very light... and very cheap whenever you come by one.

I had a buddy with a mx83 with a 1jz-gte swap, and I thought it was awesome. Realistically, you could attemp to make it a VIP styled car, but don't plan on any of the cresta/mark 2/chaser kits offered to even come close to fitting it. The MX83 cressida was a similar platform to the JZX81 cars, but the there were some differences in the chassis, and alot of body differences. You can do conversions to fit the jzx81 front ends though.
If you are looking for more information on cressidas, check this place out

Whats up with the exhausts??
Those are called "Yankee" cars. It's a very bizarre style that follows close to the bosozoku crowd and often gets mistaken as such. They both like to be loud and obnoxious. The exhausts on them get crazier and crazier. There's been weird shaped ones too like lightning bolts and one even had a heart.

i'll be darn, those cressindas are like my camry's little brother. I wonder if any coilover setups for those cars will work on my 91? I cant post on that forum which is a bummer, but i need to talk to someone who has done suspension work on those.

i'm gonna post this only because it has the same body style. i think it is a crown, but i know it will take massive amounts of work to make a cressida/camry like this:

Cressinda suspension is a close design to mk3 supras (can swap suspension parts, and drivetrain, and other stuff), not sure about camry's...

Here's a pic. I also have a pic of a Cressida with a JP kit but unfortunately i'm having trouble uploading it. Something about it being an M file...I don't know how to convert it to JPEG.
It would be nice to get my hands on a Cressida and give it some VIP-style treatment. I don't really care for bodykits on them...just a nice stance is fine for me.

in japan the cressida came in many shapes.. Cresta, chaster, mark 2. but good ole america got the cressida. you can get those fron ends and with some work get them to fit on our cressidas.

you mostly find cressidas getting swaps to1jz-2jz motors. there are a couple of toyota v8 swapped cressidas. but mostly.. there all dropped and just some minor stuff like wheels and motor work and stuff.

Couple of pics of my other cress project.
This one is pretty nutz. . 1JZ, V160 (TT supra 6MT), 5 bolt conversion, Full custom coilovers/susp, Z brakes, Full JZX90 electronics (HVAC, all wiring, Window motors, locks etc), JZX100 OPTITRON cluster (same as LS400), custom bumpers/aero, flat mount rad/intercooler, tucked wiring, custom tranny tunnel, hydro E-brake, welded diff, HID retrofit, custom LED taillights, etc, etc. . . Its a while still before all that gets done, so I built the X8 track car to kill frustration and get my X8 parts started. . . Been in the sedan game a while now, gotta stay on top. .
Wheels are Work Equip (obviously) with the old school stepped lip to match with the 80's styce. . 17x9J+14(60), 17x9J-0(80)with 215/40's. .One reason i looked specifically for these equip's is cuz i can get wider lip's for them locally. . one day. . when i raise the rear fenderline and a bunch of other shit. .
anyways. .
