i wouldnt recommend jl xr, they dont have enough midbass for me. i plan on replacing them with some rainbow slc in the near future and build a sealed enclosure for the sub.

bull crap, stop being fooled by internet car audio forums and brand names.
You can use an aftermarket deck and still inhibit various gremlins such as ground noises etc. You can use a oem deck with quality converter and get ZERO noise and besides, MOST of today's aftermarket headunits are JUNK, you'd be lucky if the quality was as goods a oem headunit.
the fact is, equipment has little to do with it. the install and knowing your equipment is more important.
if the original poster was really interested in SQ youd ditch the stock head unit.

i agree that instal is AT LEAST 95% of a great sounding setup. and yeah, youre right that most aftermarket head units are garbage, but the same can be said about oem. its all trial and error with this hobby. i was speaking in generalities about the oem radio. its very rare that u will find an oem + converter that will be on par with most of the higher end, less bling based, more SQ oriented decks. though, its becoming more common these days with the higher end OEM setups being more focused on great sound.
and what makes u think im being fooled by brand names? look through my list of gear, the only thing youll find that really has a big brand name attatched to it is the head unit. and its a well known fact that this is one of alpines better head units of recent years.

in my toyota crown i have jvc dvd/cd full face single din
a 7 inch widescreen mounted in the factory screen position i took the original out due to not being able to read japanese.
5 3/4 inch jvc kevlar components in the front
5 3/4 inch 2 way kevlars in the rear doors
1 12 inch 500watt clarion dual voice coil sub in custom made sealed box
and a 4x125 rms clarion vnet amp.
i just have basic wiring because its not a huge system but i only listen to metal and its pretty friggin loud so it will be fine for now. until i get the money for a roof mount screen in the rear between 12- 15 inch.

Stock Bose System:thumbsup:
how can u leave it stock bro? personally i think the bose in our cars are terrible. maybe if i listened to classical 24/7 it would suffice.
anyway i got a kenwood excelon kvt 819 in dash fiberglassed in with mb quart Q series components all around.
2 infinity amps 1300 watt n 4x112 or somethin (changing to mb quart soon as my exterior is done)
pioneer premier 12" carbon fiber sub.
Oh n a kinetik 1400 battery that itd like to move to the trunk and put a powermaster up front.
also used a grand worth of sound deadening on top of a bulk pack of dynamat xtreme. ceramic heat and sound absorbing paste along with other floor vinyl foams from secondskin audio. i recommend their products over all other competitors. their 'damplifier pro' is so many times better than dynamat xtreme i kick myself for spending the extra on dynamat on my last 3 cars when i could have used second skin.
google sound deadener showdown and you'll see why.

- Optima Yellow Top.
- Stock headunit with factory trunk mounted cd changer.
- Stock Bose door speakers.
- Rear deck speakers removed.
- Two old school Orion HCCA 12's in a huge ported box.
- Logic Soundlabs GSX32 Class D monoblock amp.
- 8ga wiring.
Hits like a motherfucker. And the door speakers can keep up with it.
I also have a few other rare old school heavy hitter subs laying around in boxes unused.

No, I have the front door speakers and tweeters, then I have the rear door speakers. Just the rear decks were taken out. With subs the deck speakers are useless. Plus even on a stock Y33 system, it sounds better when the decks are removed or at least unplugged.
