View Full Version : "VIP" origin
My perspective was that Yakuza started fixing up their cars that they were being driven around in and then it evolved from there. I.E. Nissan President and Toyota Century which if you've ever seen one you will notice that the backseat is where your supposed to be. So in essence there was a VIP in those cars.
Does that make sense?? So the term "bippu" to me is the japanese FOB way of saying vip.
Might as well start calling your aluminum wheels "ahruminium hoooeeeeers" because that's how they say it in japan. Flame on!

Not for me. I love the history. I like the routes of shit. Thats part of the drawl for me. I like the idea of following tradition. Im not part of the "anything goes" crowd. IMHO cars that are built with some sort of theme look better and seem to flow. But thats just me opinion, what do I know.

appreciating the history and culture is one thing. but constantly dwelling on it and trying to find reason for EVERYTHING through history and culture can sometimes turn out to be utterly pointless. sometimes, people should just let go and go with the flow (while still incorporating tradition).

Respect is something NONE of you should forget. If you care anything at all about this culture than at least give it due respect. Culture and history is what makes things great and memorable, what you said many could find offensive so be sure to use tact. I personally will NEVER go with the flow of "USA VIP" which to me is off course. Heritage is not something to take lightly and the Japanese are very serious about it..so maybe next time you'll think twice by putting yourself in their shoes like you should. This isn't just my $0.02 this is how Japanese society operates.

Culture and heritage are things that should be placed high on the pedistal when doing things, but as in EVERYTHING else in the world, things change and the lines get crossed and intertwined. It is the inevitability of evolution.
The part I just dont get is the people on here, and the people that arent on here, that take things such as JDM and now VIP scene and say that is there culture and way of life when in reality they are not part of that life, just the scene. VIP, the way I see it anyway, is a style to modify your car. It is a trend, like most other things in the automotive world, and elsewhere. For those that say it is not a trend, you are blinded. If it is not a trend then what is it? A way of life? Unless you are a drug dealer or mafia type person, the people that lived this lifestyle and started doing their cars this way, then it is nothing more than a trend that you so highly embrace.
I am not putting anybody down AT ALL. This style has grown me a lot in the last few years and I plan to embrace a lot of the styles to my own car, which is a Y34, and even though it IS a "VIP PLATFORM" car, I will never lie to myself and say it is a VIP car, it will just be styled after them.
To each his/her own, do what you will to your car and be happy with it.
I have seen so many people coming on this site recently and most have nothing to put toward this scene and it just seems a waste of time. I have learned a lot from here and I hope I can help some people in things that I know about.
Anyway enough rambling,
Cheers!

Thats what I was getting at. You can have respect for a culture or style without nutswinging. Try to show up at a Rockabilly show with a import car done in flat black, or a lowrider show with a muscle carred out 64 Impala (nice cars both of them, and the owner should be proud without a doubt, but not "the style")... Youll get laughed at. Same hold true with this style. And I see nothing wrong with holding on to tradition.

:judge: Alright I find it very disrespectful when people imitate another culture's language. At first, it may seem like fun and humor. But in the end, it comes out somewhat racial. I understand that alot of you do not intend it to be this way but think about it from their perspective. So please refrain from making irrelevant/offtopic comments.

My apologies. But honest to god I could have sworn that was what it was called, not just an imitation.

If once there could be something that would be left alone and unchanged..that would be great.
IT seems like everyone wants to own "VIP" and who really does? I am perfectly fine with sticking to tradditions. I meen, "When in Rome right"?
The cars that I have seen look the best are straight out of Japan..There arn't to many US cars that can stand thier grounds against Japans finest.
I think this is because folks are trying to own VIP and trying be so unique that the car does not look right..instead of buying a car that is excepted as a VIP car you mod something that has nothing to do with VIP..VIP cars are high end luxury cars not low end budget cars. I am not trying to offend anyone but, if your going to do it do it right and show your respect for the folks that started it all..YOu dont have to be Yakuzza to enjoy the comfort that they enjoy..but you dont have to change everything about where they come from either,,just so you can call your self VIP/ inspired/ or what ever label you give yourself.
VIP styling is expensive, very expensive and its not a kiddy game. Seems like the ones that get upset the most about VIP styling are the kids out of high school or in college, still living with moms and dads and arnt finacially secure yet
and can't really afford to play. Then start using credit cards for thier source of funds. Once again not to offend anyone. ITs life and you have to play the cards your delt, but trying to live outside your means and get all upset about this whole VIP deal is just not worth it..When your young you want to prove everything to the world and as you age you become more humble.

it's more than that. it's not even about being "the boss." it's about doing what you love most.
and as zion said it's true, as people do age, you do become more humble. arrogance will be every man's downfall and I can't wait to watch some men fall because of their arrogance.

This is what I love the most..
Speaking of cars and trends/style.
I totally respect the origin of VIP.
Most people doesn't understand what there is to love when you slam a car to the ground and put big rims with massive camber on them, but that's just the thing I love about VIP..
Subtle style, big rims, massive camber and of course, luxus cars..
I don't own a car at this moment, but when I do, it will be SC400/LS400..<3
