You think your roads are bad mine are worse........snow country. I dont have expressways to get from one place to another all side roads.
You wanted an insurnace aero kit so I guess it sooner then later.

Ouch...sorry to hear about that. Are the exhaust repairable, supposed to be parallel right? Well I guess upgraded downpipe and midpipe (maybe, - silencer) will help with HP and clearance.

Ummmm yea, maybe air would have been a good choice in this case!

Maybe Circuit Sports makes a downpipe for your application. They make a downpipe for 180sx/silvia that is flattened out for clearance.
:Off subject: It would be tight if they made headers for Y33 like this, then we wouldn't have to worry about the catalytic convertors dragging on everything.

wiate waite a second, after thinking about it a while I thought what would air do for him? He likes to ride low so I am sure if he had air he would be riding at the same hight or lower and this would have still happend. Especially at the speeds he rolls at There is not enough reaction time to raise your car if you see a pot whole or a bump...

Honestly, shit happens
it was 100% caused by my exhaust
the Y32 angle where it bolts up to the midpipe was weird, so it hung down further than it should
no big deal
ill buy a new midpipe
cut and weld ta flange so it sits up another 2 inches and ill be golden
Im trying to find someone to do some YAJ fgor me right now
and ill do the Gran tourismo front end and insurance kit

Cant speak for everyone but I think that folks in Japan are just more dedicated to what they do than folks in the US. Have you seen the Japanese Cholo crowed? thats a perfect example of what I am saying..They go all out. Seems like it to me that is.....................

Thats the point i have been trying to get across, and its the reason i give so much respect to people who ride low on coilovers. From what i can understand from the mags and websites, being low on coilovers is considered the "hardcore" option and gets maximum respect...

I like the way you phrase that..because I am trying to get my car as low as I can with as much camber as I can withstand..I want to roll the way I park...I would not mind air over my coilovers for speed bumps and steep driveways :) something I have noticed as well in the mags is those on air and have rolling shots are slammed really low as well...there not rolling 4x4..I think that alot of folks who end up getting air and not all PANCAKES..lol....end up rolling high and parkng low. Just an observation I have noticed with folks around here locally...allways messing with there switches at the lights and then when its green up they go to 4x4 stance and roll out..just like a transformer...lol

that may be true but common sense MUST come into play sometime...personally, there's no way i can get away with coilovers...i'd have to park on the street everyday or make ramps with 2x4's when i leave and come home...it's not like i can just pack up and move to another house and wah-lah, problem solved. thtas ass backwards?
give props to someone that can overcome anything with the push of a button?
DOnt get me wrong
i WILL have air by the end of summer
but not so i can ride high
so i can ride even lower, i just want t be able to get in my driveway without scraping.
but hey, if i have to park on the street then so be it
if thats what it takes to make my car something that Nihon-jin will stop and ask me about (oh yes, it has happened the day i got my wheels on) then that makes me proud.
It makes me happy that i go through the same things they do, I get respect from the local shops i go to VS other military becuase i do all my stuff myself, and they have seen the progression of all my cars.
For me, going VIP is immersing myself further into the japanese culture. It has allowed me to meet more JP than any other car ive driven.
Its like it Demands more respect...

whatever turns you on buddy...
I think having air (when installed properly and clean) takes a lot more custom work than just throwing on some coilovers, which can be done in a couple hours. if that means saving a body kit or preventing something shitty happening with a push of a button, then so be it. a penny saved is a penny earned.
so you rather park on the street and have people respect you, rather than being on air and SAFELY get in your driveway everyday? that's just retarded.
i think most people on this forum would rather be on air than coilovers anyday of the week if we all had a choice. your notion of being on coilovers for the sake of more respect by others is nonsense to me.
i tihnk you're ass backwards buddy :)

But thats the whole point to me... Taking an expensive luxury car, and making it so it can only go on super flat roads, bumpy and inconvenient. Of course its not practical, and lacks common sense; but that means the owner is making sacrifices "for the style".
For me, going VIP is immersing myself further into the japanese culture. It has allowed me to meet more JP than any other car ive driven.
Thats awesome. I'm already planning my november trip with some Minkara buddies, I love meeting Japanese people who would otherwise not have anything to do with foreigners.
-----------------
Of course for my own ride there is a limit to how much i can sacrifice.
I cannot go any lower unless i modify the driveway (wooden access ramps would get stolen in the first night), or park on the street (same problem, things go missing alot in this area).
And my gf already dislikes the ride in my car
But she prefers it to my last car on factory air - going around corners at snails pace to avoid the sideskirt scraping the ground, major scrubbing when going over undulations, then finally being stranded in my driveway for 3 months because i couldnt find a replacement air strut...
If i can get proof that aftermarket air wont be anything like that, at the driving height I want (i.e. at least 2" off my current height), then maybe i would consider air again... Right now i like knowing exactly what height i am at, and knowing that it will ALWAYS be that height, not having to worry if an airline/bag/valve will break and leave me stranded

what kind of bags did you have on your old ride dominik? i was really sketchy about getting bags at first too but i love them...it's hard to see myself going back to coilover unless money was an issue...and even if it was, i would prolly save up for a few more months and make sure i get something i'm happy with...

Factory air on a Y31 Cima, and before that Factory air on a UZZ31 Soarer. At first i thought it was the ducks nuts, but after a few incidents i felt i couldnt trust airbags.
Both cars would sometimes randomly change height while driving. Easily seen on the height monitor, but you dont want to be looking at that all the time.
Then the front right strut in the Cima POPPED while i was sitting in my driveway. Replacement was a nightmare, and then i was constantly worried if another one would pop

thats why im using UAS bags
I can ALWAYS keep a spring in the back of my car in the spare tire well, and i always carry around a toolbox 98% of time
so it would only be a matter of an hour on the side of the road to pop a spring in
even less at my house.

that's good thinking right there, always keeping backup suspension in the car lol. I like my coilovers, but honestly i'd rather have bags. It can go so much lower if needed/wanted, and you don't ALWAYS have to ride so low. Sometimes it's just a hassle, especially if the roads you know you have to take are so shitty, that it makes you not even want to go around that area anymore.

i just got my car back from getting the UAS kit installed and i ride just 1/2''-1'' higher than all slam and thats still tucking with no gap. i picked bags instead of coilovers because its kind of dumb to fuck up your kit and have everything else falling off just because you want to ride low forever.

why not just put a roberta cup on your current coilovers? so you can ride lower, but yet raise it an inch or 2 when needed. yes, i agree. riding low all the time is dope and gets mad props. but whats that gonna do when your exhaust and bumper is laying on someones street and you gotta pay to fix it? just a thought. i love riding low as well, but sometimes i just gotta hit that switch and raise it up for the sake of my pocket book. haha. nonetheless, good luck with your project.

almost nothing in japan is cheaper than the US

WHeels always
Brakes
Sometimes suspension
garson stuff
JP stuff
and very rarely electrionics
i can count on one hand the parts ive gotten for each car from Here and i need a list for what i get from the states
Gauges, engine parts, coilovers noramlly, CD/dvd players
are all cheaper in the states

I don't think the cup kit will do enough for you. It's not much difference especially if you plan to run low which I know for a fact you do. This is the difference on a 360 that wasn't even low in the first place:

It doesnt look like much, but 2" higher would mean 2" lower on my regular ride height. Normal = Slammed. Raised = quite low
But the hideous cost of those cups makes it nothing but a fantasy. I remember Lorin talking about being able to make the cups for around $100 each, but he didnt elaborate more than that...

dominik,
how long ago did you have these cars with bags ?
I understand your frustration, but I'm sure air runner and UAS have come up with higher quality parts and latest technology that may avoid problems you had.
Both of the cars were older models (an '89, and a '93), and the problem was that they just werent designed to be driven down low. At standard height, the air suspension was great, but when you lower the PSI to get the car lower, it starts going pear shaped.
This is why i keep asking people to post vids or pics at drive height... because i want to see how aftermarket air reacts when you are driving low. If it is anything like OEM air, then it will be floaty, and out of control.
I see there being 2 types of people who get air: The ones who want to roll low occasionally & park low, without the inconvenience of a lowered car (seems to be the majority)
and then there are the ones who want to roll low 23:59/7, and they have reached the limits of their current coil setup
I fall into the latter, so i couldn't care less about how it looks 'slammed', because thats not how I would be driving. I am more interested how it drives when you have 1" clearance under the chassis (about an inch lower than i ride on coilovers). Right now I dont know how bags can control a heavy car like mine with that much precision.
I am very keen to see how Grant goes with UAS bags, since he seems to have the same attitude (though he rolls lower!! haha)
Yokotas13
