I know of course there's airrunner and stuff. But what about coilovers? Anyone make REALLY low springs for this car?
Thanks,
Elliott

before my decision on getting UAS, i was about to get some insurance coilovers for my ride. you can get them from Van (OnetonVIP) on the forums for about $2,000 shipped. they come with the stock spindles so you won't have to send out yours. theres also the JIC's, which i here a lot of good stuff about them and bad stuff so i'm not sure about those. i know there's more but i'm sure somebody will list all of them.

in order to go really fuking low while still maintaining a nice ride, you have to go with FULL TAP coilovers. There is NO other way to do it if you take the non air route.
My algernon full taps are very comfortable yet I can go about 3 inches lower without losing strut travel. This is crucial to go REALLY LOW and while maintaining a good ride.
there's been two people on this vsc forum who's ran non full tap, generic coilovers, one was cusco and one was JIC. One thought they were "shot" but supposedly they weren't. The other one was actually shot but didn't know they were shot....so go figure.

Can you link me to those algernon's? I can't find them for the life of me.

Yeah Coilovers arnt for comfort thats for sure..any brand for that...Air is nice as I have stock air on my lexus but its kinda floaty and when you slam on the breaks it noes dives every time...but I guess its the softness of the ride..its almost to soft,,but thats just me..I like both and they both serve thier points and have pros and cons..I do like the stiffnes and the steering responce apposed to air..most air equiped vehicles have shitty steering responce...I dont know about after market kits but factyory air for sure....

I'm waiting on coilovers right now. I've ridden on coils in everything from a honda to 240sx to my sc300. It's hard to beat them as far as performance. This VIP thing is a little more complicated though because ride quality is just so important. The perfect setup would be a fully adjustable (full tap) coilover, that rides like stock but with enhanced performance when you need it.
Alot of the performance will come just from lowering the center of gravity of the vehicle. If you couple that with good dampening adjustment and good spring rates you should have a nice setup that can go low but doesn't ride like a horse and buggy.
if your really worried about ride quality...stay stock.... it's a trade off......

I don't really care that much about comfort as I just got out of a pretty damn stiff GS300. I just want to know what companies I can look into and such.

I'm surprised, so many unhappy peeps with coilovers.
I don't know about JIC's or any other brands but my Algernon's are pretty damn comfortable, this is coming from a guy who can't tolerate a bad, bouncy, stiff ride.
I took my mom to the market the other day and she didn't complain about the ride one bit, however she's complained about my previous suspension set ups.
two way full tap coilovers are very dependent on set up, many people don't understand how they are supposed to be PROPERLY set it up.

also coilovers shouldn't be counted out just yet, so far the only two people (that I know of) here on VSC who's expierenced full tap coilovers are me and antbo.
and VIP riders in japan who run coilovers all run FULL TAP set ups, they will not touch the other stuff.

Alright, i'll try to find him on the forums. Is he on here?
qoozy is right....It's all about yer preference.....every car I've owned has been pretty much slammed from cut stock springs, cut lowering springs, coilovers, active, and now air...... But by far the best suspension I've felt that was really low was in my homies CLS55 AMG..... but what can u expect from a $100k ride......

I'm totaly happy with non full tap coilovers..its not like these cars hit the track....damping is a plus but not a neccessity.

aahhh you say that ful tap coilovers is the only way to go but even antbo said his car drove like shit with those full tap set up.....its just personal preference..
So you cant really call non full tap coilovers generic...its just an add on for folks that want a little more comfort..but common anytime you lower your car it will never ride like stock agian...so anything we do to lower whether is springs, coilovers, or ai..you will loose ride quallity while rideing low....period.

yeah it is a preference.
but let's be logical here. To get a good drop, we all know a lousy 2" is not going to be enough. To satisfy our senses, we need at least 4 inches right ?
this means a non full tap generic coilover would have to compress a whole 4 INCHES and stay that way. Now depending on what the stuts full extension is, you will lose at least 2 inches of strut travel.
with full tap, the shortening of the strut is done at the strut body and not the strut rod, this takes the strut rod out of the equation. This changes everything.
when I had my RL on generic non full tap coilovers, it rode great when I had a 2 finger gap. But when I set it all the way down it rode horrible.
just my 2 cents to VSC, logically speaking I'm sure most here can understand the huge difference it makes.

ok...just to clarify.... does it feel stock at full height???
because if I ride at full height......it's super stiff
when i was on stock springs.....they were sooo soft but it rode soo nice.....but at high speeds i could bottom out the suspension. For the record my Q is not Q45T

not that stiff. just a little stiffer from stock hieght. from the looks of yours from last year, when you were topped off, you looked like you had hydros with those short stiff bounces. with airrunner i can drive it through the streets topped off and wont be a crazy stiff ride. i dont really get that short stiff bouncing. not how yours looked.

mmmmm....not really. only if i set it were the rim in the rear is at the same hieght as the fender and if the front is tuckin about 1/2" of the wheel and i hit a dip. when i come home from LA after shows i usually have a 1 inch gap up front and 1/2" tire tuckin in the rear for. it only bottoms out at this one area in capistrano. but thats it.
just chillen bro. waiting for my car to get out the paint shop  . how bout you?

I'm on JIC FLTA2 and they ride great. They just have to be tuned to your personal preference. Since I had it, I played around with tuning and now I have it riding like stock (or close to it).
These coilovers are great if you want that option. You just have to be patient and learn how to tune your suspension for your personal taste.

yeah I had to play around with my set up to. It's a pita to take off the wheels all the time.
did you set it so that your spring perches are high and your strut body is set real low ? this way you get maximum strut rod travel.

are the Insurance coilovers full tap? i like the fact that it comes with the stock spindles vs. having to send yours out for JIC's
