im seeing the whole vip movement blowing up stateside. now that i see replica wald and JP kits i know its about to blow through. the cars are inexpensive, in a sense, that almost anyone can afford one. with more and more replicas around us everyday, the vip "look" is easily achieved. of course any publicity is good publicity, but what will this do to the whole vip scene?
i know a lot of the og/hardcore honda guys are still in it bc thats their roots. no matter how many stolen hondas, played out themes, the og's are always gonna be there when "trends" pass over. i hope to see the same when it comes to vip.
personally i love the vip scene. but at the same time i love jdm, european, etc. im just a car enthusiest at heart. im building a car right now thats european, has japanese inspired but can perform when needed. to me the build is always funner than the finish product. its a car nobody would ever want to build. but im just doing it bc im tired of seeing civics everyday and ls400s are too typical for my tastes as far as vip is concerned.
id love to see america pick up on the van/k-car movement. now with the fit, xB and yaris... i thinking we'll slowly head that direction. im seeing a good number of estimas too. * 8)
so where do you think its going? for the better or worse? or just another trend.
ps- damn replicas and those who support them * :tickedoff:

I think with the help of the internet is is much easier for a lot more people to get an "idea" of what styles are out there car wise. Because of this more companies will make knock off items but give it a year or two and the trend will move on to something new and fresh. I don't like replicas but it does help spread the real VIP image. Many will try and follow the trend on a budget and few will suceed. It is like every other form of car modding. The real VIP scene will stay the same as it has been just like most other scenes and in the end the only cars that people will respect are the ones that a built with the passion that they deserve. Remember replication is just another form of flatery.

LOL all that use replicas will fail just for the fact they used a replica. With VIP you really can't front. Part of being VIP is about how much your flossin...

Which is why we must put together a large national 'net-roots' and 'grass-roots' movement to call these cars out. We also need a group of really strong VIPcars to make some serious news in the auto-publications. We need more articles like Richard Changs, where the roots, the style and the culture of the scene are layed out in black and white so there is little room for confusion. I know people hate to name call, or be mean... but if we don't squash the knock-off buying, half-ass building, weak VIPcar builders, then we are only aiding in the detriment of the style that we all love. So its really up to you, but I will try to do my part.

yeah that was the point I was trying to get accross, someone might stumble onto the scene because they buy a replica kit off ebay then scrap it because they learn what real VIP style is.

I have mixed feelings about the VIP scene becoming mainstream. On one hand it's good because the manufacturers are making more money so they can make more parts and diversify the scene. On the other hand, if it becomes mainstream then no one is going to look at your car anymore, as they will be seeing hundreds of cars just like it every day. I remember when spinners first came out, first few cars I saw with them I was all like 'woah'. Now I don't even look.
I have a big problem with knockoff kits and wheels(aside from ones where the originals are out of production). The best way to stop people buying them is to make fun of people who do.

Trends will always come and go, its the ones that stick it out through the good times and the worst of times that will stand out from the posers and bandwagon jumpers.
So I say, let them jump on the bandwagon of VIP, and watch them fade away and be forgotten.

Step One to have people take "VIP" more seriously: The supporters sorta need to actually have VIP, or VIP-styled, cars to truly represent what they are preaching. Otherwise we are all just talking about nothing right now...
