View Full Version : thoughts on cf engine details?

just wondering what you guy's thought about carbon fiber in the engine bay. i'm having a couple custom pieces made. i feel that being an exotic material it kind of goes along with the vip style. i was saved from the darkside and there will not be any on the interior/exterior of the car, but it seems like a classy touch in the engine bay. thoughts?

I dig it, in the right places.
It's a great high-gloss finish but is more interesting that just a solid colour

Do the CF trunk, but paint the top side.

I wish they made carbon fiber hoods for my Pro so I could do that.

well the custom pieces are something you can't buy. i'm having a smooth wiper cowl made, eliminating the wipers. other than that there will be a spark plug cover which doesn't cost much. i'm also having a custom dash kit made so i can smooth out the console and have a mouting place for a dakota digital ride leveling system.

what i was thinking about doing with the cf is having my painter re-clear it with a black tinted clear. that way it would look black but when the light caught it right you would see the weave deep underneath. i might still do it. i'm going to have some test panels made with my kit/cowl and see what my painter can do.

i'm not really going for a pure vip style look. its not even possible on a maxima.

Best place to have the CF installed...

though it may not be impossible, but you aren't even trying so it seems.

Throwing CF all over the inside of the car is a no no. if you can't do wood grain, then leave it as it or do some cool fur.

there are plenty of cefiro's that have been done up vip style.

you are missing the point of vip style, which really focuses on suspension and rims.

EVERYTHING ELSE ARE JUST TASTEFUL (or tasteless) ACCESSORIES.

So..that's why I said money could be spent elsewhere.

this is true...my uncles new 2007 amg came with dry carbon where the wood grain should of been on his dash.

you are assuming way too much. first of all, i am not going for a pure vip style build. secondly, theres a big difference between building a cefiro and building a maxima. try to find jdm support for a car they don't even have in japan. third, i have taken care of the suspension (jic coilovers with uas strut bags and dakota digital ride leveling system) as well as wheels (19" mrr hr2 with custom black/polish paint AND 19" ssr professor sp-1). last, i was originally having the dash made and water transfer printed to match my factory wood, but since i am going for a black on black on black color scheme, slightly on the sporty side, i was considering rocking the cf. it will not be "all over the inside of the car", but simply up the center console from the shifter to the cc. so maybe you are missing the point of style period; doing extremely fly s**t that hasn't been done before. just because YOU"VE never see tasteful carbon fiber ACCENTING doesn't mean it can't be done. the fact that you can't visualize something unique say's something to me. you keep working on your cookie-cutter, i'm 100% going to rock the carbon fiber now (JUST FOR YOU). sometimes that guy doing things you don't understand isn't behind you...

have yur cf candied.
when i had my xB, i had some cf.

like anything thou, in moderation and how its going to flow with yur theme.
make sure you go with a reputable company that lays cf well. theres alot of inferior cf parts out there.

some pics of my old ride with some cf.

OK big shot. no need to get all pissy. the fact that you dont have a 'regular' vip (styled) car makes you out of the box already.

that said, doing something like this, must be done right, or else it's not going to look good, and will look 'thrown in'.

if you aren't here for the vip style cars, then what are you here for? remember, this is a vip style forum, not a maxima forum.

it's not the fact i can't visualise it, it's just the fact that usually every time it's done, it either gets OVER done, or just looks out of place/too sporty for a luxury aspect. bentley's don't come with carbon fibre interiors, neither do rolls. get MY point?

don't try to degrade me, as i wasn't trying to degrade you. just because i don't see your way, doesn't mean i don't condone it. all i said was money could be spent elsewhere, and that stance is what vip is about, not carbon fiber.

and carbon fiber center consoles have been done plenty of times, from stickons, to inserts, to completely CF consoles. it's not really the 'fly shit' that 'hasn't been done before'. if it floats your boat then do it. you asked my opinion, i gave my thoughts.

Play nice guys :)

I personally think it will take you outside of VIP styling. CF is for 'sports cars' or cars tht want a more sporty look.

My SC has candy cf trunk, hood, fenders, entire center console, sills, pillars, intercooler piping, etc, etc.

Sporty? yes
VIP Styled? not so much

I think u can add a little for asthetics. I think the line is crossed once you start replacing exterior body panels, hoods, trunks, etc.

My VIP GS300 has a little CF on the outside as well BTW. I did the side window garnish and the rear window. The engine has a couple small pieces and im sure I'll get around to doing more under the hood as time permits.

Sick Rolls btw:biggthumpup:

Who wouldve thought you wouldve had an xB lol. Looks nice, I will agree though as long as it flows, do it. even with the trunk. and i believe its a majority vite for the engine bay accents to be cf. good luck.

Autobacs now has this cool stuff called
MAGICAL CARBON
its real carbon fiber, that is adhesive backed. they give you a clear plastic sticky paper to trace your template on, put it on the CF sheet, and cut it out
looks fantasmic if you ask me.

Magical Carbon has been out for hella...

I guess its better than a typical, flat dash kit...but im not a fan of any 'stick on' parts that simulate the real thing.

alright, my bad for taking it personally but to me it seemed like you were trying to degrade me. the console has been done with varying results, but i doubt you'll find a cf wiper shroud that eliminates the windshield wipers anywhere. as far as i'm concerned that is my creation. that and the valve cover are what i asked about, but input on anything, good or bad, is appreciated. as you said "vip is about suspension and wheels", thats why i'm here. rest assured my other browser tab is on maxima.org. to me, a well rounded car takes inspiration from several places not just one. i'm going to try out the carbon fiber, if i don't like it i'll have it dipped. wa-la! instant custom "wood" dash.

sheets are nice and flexiable, but cf or kevlar with good weave pattern, rolled edges, and thick aviaition/marine clear coat is what i look for.

CF anything is such a, "ricey" thing to add to any car unless it serves a functional purpose such as the F1 and JGTC cars, and the like.

Hahahaha, he just trumped ALL OF YOU with that response. They are all for looks and style. So whatever you decide for yourself works best. The wood comes from the old days when the dash panel was a piece of wood, so it's reminiscent of that era. Carbon fiber the same, but reminiscent to racing heritage and new-age tech. So do what you want to. Just keep it to the interior and engine bay.

Wood is ricey unless it's on a chuckwagon.

Hah! Take that norm!

For me, the ultimate finish is piano black plastic for trim. The 'key' to piano black is perfection, I don't mean orange peeley rattle can black, I mean perfectly straight super deep clear black with not a ripple in it. Or you know, close enough.
