hey just wondering if anyone is in the military? i am thinking of joining the USAF after i finish my bachelor's degree(May 2007) i would like to go through OTS(Officer Training School). Is it better to go enlisted and then OTS? or will going straight into OTS without prior military experience be ok? (i had NJROTC in high school but not any military experience) any information would be much appreciated. thanks in advance.

I was in the ARMY and from what I heard from the other enlisted guys is that going straight to OTS is alot better.
Since you already have a degree that will help you out.
The Air Force cadets are the most babied recruits ever...lol, but get paid alot more.
Hooah!

The Navy is good if you dont mind a ship.... I was in the Navy the best part was SEEING the world. Why dont you try AW and maybe a rescue swimmer being an AW with the Helicopter crew. If I could do it all over again thats what I would do. Store keeper is okay but you do other stuff too like cut hair depending where your stationed at.
I worked on the Carriers Fight Deck dangerous job to this day still work on the Military planes but as a Civilian. I enjoy being around Military folks the sad part is they come and go in my life as friends

Best Branch?
Navy= if you want to see the world as Robert said.
Air Force= if you want to be paid decently
Army=Pretty stable and you can move up fast in ranks.
Marines=only if you are gung ho about fighting.
Coast Guard=if you like smaller boats :D dont know much about the coast guards.
But I would try out the Air Force first.

some people are telling me that i don't have a chance at getting in because i wont have a technical bachelors degree(scientist, engineering, etc) and that i would have to go enlisted first and then try going in as an officer? also they are downsizing the air force? anyone know what the real deal is? i dont have access to a recruiter until sometime this week since it was a weekend and today is a holiday. maybe someone can give input before i see a recruiter tomorrow haha.

In all branches of the service they are over manned in some fields......... then others they need folks badly they get paid bonus for staying.
I work w/ the Air Force guys they are wimps........... GO NAVY see the world.

if u really wanna go to OTS... don't settle for less.. make it happen.. elbow your way in.. lay the pressure on a recruiter.. it is true that they are down size'n but if there is a will there is a way.. maybe opt for an oversea base.. japan, germany, etc..
i personally haven't meet anyone who continued OTS from enlisted.. actually, i still don't know anyone, personally..
don't rush in with what a recuiter sets up.. take your time.. even months if necessary.. just to research a recuiter's suggestions.. or talk to other recruiters..

man, i could relate to that.. i met some peeps in the military and they ended up be'n like brothers.. then we got out and ended up drift'n away... the girls on the other hand came and went but that wasn't a big deal... we just waited for the new female recruits to ship in..* hahaaa!! j/k.. naw, i've met some girls that ended up being like sisters.. its sad.. but i know they are do'en well..

I am in the AF now for 9 years and it has been good to me so far. But just like any job it has its ups and downs. If you go in the AF take full advantage of the 100% tuition for school and also so you know the Officers are getting hit really hard on the downsizing. If you want to see the world in the airforce then your best bet would have to be in the maint. field. Be an FCC(flying crew chief) on a cargo plane. If you are maried it might be rough but as for single people it is the shit. You will go every where as an FCC. I personally believe that you should start out as an enlisted person then cross over to be an officer. That way you will be able to see both sides of the fence and it will make you a better officer. Most of the new Officers in the AF are fresh out of college and have never seen the real work force in action. They only see it from a supervisor point of view and have now idea as to what effect thier decions have on the enlisted people. But like I said I personnaly believe you should do your first 3-4 yrs as enlisted then move over or up to Officer. You can't learn people management from school, that kind of skill comes from experience. Oh and yeah we may come across as wimps but we are well paid wimps in my eyes. I make as much as the same rank in the other branches but I do not work nearly as much. :) Hope that helps. SSgt Chris Thompson over and out!!

Oh and one more thing.* It is true that you will have a lot of coming and going of friends but it is a small world in the service and it is a good way to make needed connections at a lot of bases.* If you need something from someone or somewhere you will know someone somewhere that can get it for you. ;)* In the service it is more of "who you know" and "not what you know".
