Drove the LS yesterday with the wheels on. Lowered it 2" and gave it a go.
The car felt sluggish and the throttle response was very delayed. Does moving up in wheel and tire size affect this?
I want to hear from people with wide wheels to see if they are getting this type of problem too!! Now I feel like I have to upgrade the motor to compensate for the wheels.....

Yep, thats why I went with 19's.. Not too much of a loss in throttle response but anything over 20 inches will definitely effect it even more.

Ooh yeah, the bigger rollout definitely decreases acceleration and the added weight and friction don't help either. On the other hand, once you get up to speed on the highway, you should be getting some better mileage. City mileage will suffer though.

i drove my ls for less than 24 hours on stock wheels, so i really can't comment on this car in particular. but it is a car (our 1st gens at least) that wasn't too fast in the first place...
with that said, it feels faster, though not as nimble, than my accord ever did!

My Cima felt the same with stockies on as it did with the 18x11 and 18x13s on it. Only difference i noticed was that it never lost traction with the bigger wheels (for obvious reasons), where the stockies would start spinning if i just put my foot down. Suppose this means it actually launched better with the bigger wheels!
Being a turbo car might have had something to do with it though...

yep
Heavier wheels will make the car slower and hurt your gas mileage. Who cares though :D

haha exactly. mine still has enough "balls" for me w/ the 20's on it.

Thanks all, I knew going with a wide and big setup will affect something..
Yes {-.-} you are starting to sound like my parents... ;D All I have left to put on is the kit!

pagongLS, just take off the Restrictor plate, to give the red dragon alittle more juice. keep it on the downlow, its not really street legal.

It helps if you go skinny/stretched tyres.
The rolling radius of my 17" merc wheels with nicely stretched tyres, is exactly the same as the stock 15" alloys and balloon tyres I got with the car.
Drop the car hard and you'll feel like you are going faster as you're so close to the ground.

I wish I can drop it more, but, I cant right now.* The fender will rest on the tire if I go another inch.
I dunno :-\

stock suspension and larger wheels was a nightmare
the car launches faster with sport springs now

my boss used to own both a ls400 and an infiniti q45..both stock. I noticed the throttle response on the ls was delayed, it felt sluggish off the line, i was told it was something in the ecu in the first gen ls that did that to avoid abrupt starts and for smoother shifting..thats wat i heard...thats why i bought the q45..i was able to get my boss' q45 sideways on turns and burnout off the line..im miss working for her..hahahahahah ;D
ohh and i didnt really notice too much difference between the 18" up to the 20" but on 15" my car is amazingly faster..hahahahah.. :police:

1.Does the LS start off in 2nd gear ?
2.Does the Q start off in 1st gear?

Maybe because I only had the stock 15" wheels on before the 19" thats probably why it felt so different.

Only zenki G50s (1993 specifically if I remember correctly) had the first gear start. And Q45s are actually the cars with delayed throttle response. When originally designed, they were afraid the onset of too much torque would not be welcomed, so that's why there's a stupid progressive throttle linkage, and the car is just tuned to initiate a tad slower than it could otherwise
