Hello everyone. I recently found this site. I too like the vip "wagon" style. Here is the project that I have so far..

It's a 96 odyssey van with a fabulous look alike kit, mugen grill.

This is it photo shopped:

I'm waiting for my wheels to come in; those wheels on my van are my buddies. Future plans are painting it white, tein hightech springs, katzkin leather kit, mulitple monitors. I'll post pics as I progress..

great start.... do you still have the stock grill? because it looks 100x better than the one your currently using. but i like it. and dont waste your money on tein springs you wont be happy with the miniscule rop they'l give you, save for something adjustable.

Thanks everyone for the kind words.

The deal is that my wife will let me "upgrade" the van with a $2,000 budget but things got out of hand. All I was going to do was get nedw wheels and repaint it. Well, from reading articles about vip wagons, I decided to go for it and this is where I am at now. It's a common sit e to se xb'z running around but a Odyssey?? I figured I go against the grain and give it a try. Parts have been hard to find but do-able with paitence. I have the v/s kit, mugen grill and hopefully a wing from japan as soon as my friend settles down there.
I also got these in the mail today:

I need some honest opions form you guys. First is tire selection. I don't know if I should run 225/40/18 or 235/40/18?? In the pics of my van with the wheels, they are mantaray sports, 18x8.5 with 40mm offset and 245/40/18 yokohamas. I am leaning towards the Sumitomo HTR Z II. The van will be a daily driver and will be used as what a van is supposed to be used for. I am also leaning towards the tein high tech with the 30mm drop for driveablitly and clearence issues; I would hate for my wife to ruin the front piece. And as for paint; should I leave it this color and paint the centers of the wheels silver or paint the van white and leave the rims as is. I seen the pics of the number 6 van that was a similar color to my van and that was sick!! Any opinions are welcomed.. Thanks again and aloha... ;D

Im still new to the vip scene(not even owning a vip car yet) but Im going to have to say 225 if you want the look or 235 if you want slightly better ride quality. If you figure it out a 225 tire is right around 9 inchs or so wide, but a 235 is going to doughnut slightly, giving it more sidewall to flex and a better ride quality(sidewall is part of the suspension not thought of often), 225 will give a better "streched tire" look that vip guys are (at least from what Ive read) after.

Oh my... i take back what I said before new sterns being cheap taiwanese wheels... they're cheap chinese wheels!! :(
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v348/bagaong_bandit/toys/wheels006.jpg
In all honesty, you might want to reconsider your wheel choice though...it's not just a quality thing, but your car should be able to take much better offsets, and you'll actually want something more aggressive to go with the aggressive fabulous knockoff kit, otherwise the wheels will look way underwhelmed. For the price you got those new, you should be able to get something used that is still going to be 1000x better in quality, appearance, fit, and overall "makes you feel good and proud" factor.

I thought about it and came to this conclusion.. I can't even come close to buliding at your budget. This is what I spent so far:

wheels: 550 shipped

tires: 450 shipped

springs: tein high techs 300 shipped from japan 2-3 month wait

front grill used from japan; won on ebay auction. 80 shipped

paint: 500 materials only..2 stage quality paint; white with platnium pearl. My buddies going to do it for free but I provide materials. Include spraying under the hood, and all jambs.

I guess I over paid for everything. I guess this is the price I pay for living in Hawaii. :'( I guess everything is expensive here..But thanks for the link to the wheels. I am trying to sell the wheels I have and hope to get different ones.. The wife does not agree, but oh well... :knuppel2:

I had a set of 18x10 with 40 mm offset and it still stuck out like a soar thumb... I like the staggered look but I need to run equal size wheels all around so I can atleast rotate the tires..the wife said so.. :uglystupid2:

who says you can't run the same size tire on different sized wheels?!?!!? it's definitely not the norm, but it's doable.

I did not say that you can't run same size tires on different width wheels!!! :-X I said that you won't be able to roatate them!! ::)18x9.5 in the front and 18x8.5 in the rear after rotating them?? that would look stoopid.. My wife wants her van more pratical than anything..It won't have the "look" but it's hers and not mines. If it was up to me, air suspension, bigger wheels and of course they would be staggered!!!

here's how it looked..I know the tire are backwards but I just put them on for the hell of it..

wheels are mantaray sport m6.. fronts are 18x8.5 40mm offset with 245/40/18. rears are 18x10with 40mm offset with 265/35/18.. those wheels were on my buddies car..

Fully built JDM spec IS300.. Ran high 12 on street tires in the 1/4, no traction at all, daily driven. He no longer owns it..sold the car but kept the wheels.. We just put them on the van for the hell of it..

It looks like the van was not lowered at the time and you have positive camber in that pic. The tires would also be way to big if you were to go with that size. I don't see why that size won't fit.

OnTop
06-09-2006, 12:12 PM
my opinion, make an offer on those wheels and stretch the hell out of the tires i suggest a 215-40-18 for the 18x8.5 and 235-40-18 on the 18x10. and some negative camber and tadda fitment. drop it of course..

BTW: the whole point of rotations is to get more life out of tires right? well tire rotation for inside wear(which is common on lowered cars) require that the tires are swapped and the rims stay. the rotation you speak of are for UNIdirectional tires which can be put on any corner of a car no matter which side of the tire faces out. NOT the same for DIRECTIONAL tires
ex: for DIRECTIONAL tires (which 99.99% of all 18"tires are) passsenger front goes to drivers front rotating in same direction. same with the rear, passenger rear goes to drivers rear rotating in same direction.
go to most tires shops and tell them to flip your tires

tech126,

Welcome to the boards.* Nice to see a fellow person from Hawaii doing the VIP styling.* Have yet to see a Oddy (your model) being done VIP here in Hawaii.* In our crew we used to have a VIP Oddy.* I am sure that you have probally seen the LaGreat in shows in the past(when we were PIMPLUX).* Although he and his ride are now representing strong in Okinawa. Our crew Executive Konnexion is still here trying to emulate the VIP culture and Styling of Japan.* Please feel free to come and check out our site.* Also couple of our members have shops and or work for shops and have great knowledge for finding parts for your ride.* Our site is executivekonnexion.com* I myself am also attempting to do my EGG VIP style.* It is a long way away from VIP but hopefully one day it will be worthy of the VIP stylings of Japan. :P
