i always wondered how easy/difficult it would be. i was never a big fan of v8's and i am a huge fan of turbo's so this would be the perfect engine for me in a y33 q45. i never really tried to look into it though since i gave up on vipcar's for now but seeing all these vipcars is peaking my interest again. plus the last thing that kept me from getting the q was gas prices!

Gotta get used to the gas prices, they're never going back down and its only going to be about 2-3 dollars more per full tank then back last year or so. I don't know of anyone who did the swap, but it would be kinda cool to see the turbo v6 in a stateside vipcar I guess.

vg30det in y33? blah.
just keep the engine and get some custom parts made.
or step up to a larger displacement v8.

Why go with the older VG30DET? The Cima's came out with the VQ30DET in Japan, so you could easily buy a front-clip and swap it all over. Would come with all ECUs etc...

Oh man, I thought it he put vq30det, didn't realize he put vG30det. Yea, go with the vq.

Is there a particular reason?
That's like putting a '68 dodge slant 6 into a '90 dodge viper... sure the slant can be built to rev to 12K and put out way more power than anyone would ever expect... but why

i'm sorry i really meant vq30det, i keep thinkin leopard w/ vg30(was thinkin about building one) but meant cima w/ vq30
1st reason: they already came with them in japan.
2nd: i like turbo motors, would love to run a front mount on a q45
3rd:dislike v8's cause they are heavy and they suck more gas

Actually that is not really true. The all-alloy 1UZ 4.0L V8 in the Soarer is the same weight (even lighter i think) than the 1JZ 2.5 TT engine. When driven hard, the V8 sucks the same amount of juice, and i havent seen any evidence that pottering around uses more fuel in a V8

actually its 300 pounds heavier than the 2JZ-GTE. The 1JZ-GTE is lighter than the 2JZ-GTE if I remember correctly. Turbo motors do suck down some fuel though! My old 1UZ never did me wrong ;).

i know turbo motors can suck gas but it's based on how heavy your foot is, whereas a v8 will undoubtedly used more gas then a V6 if they are both driven similarly. besides i just love turbos! i would build a twin turbo V8 if i could(which i heard there was a TT q45 down here in hawaii a while back. the guy built it and was thinkin about trading it in for a new q and i was first inline to try and buy it. i think they said it was 5-600hp but not too sure what came out of it. )

Because they are race cars. And they are built according to certain rules and regulations stipulating engine size, max boost pressure, etc.
Hmmm, so are you trying to build a sports car... or....? Not sure of the exact need of so much hp in a cruiser car...

not exactly trying to build a sports car but kinda a best of both worlds situation. i kinda like things that are out of the norm. i.e. always liked fwd sr20's. i love sr's in general but the fact that the fwd platforms are not as popular, let alone nissan fwds, always have attracted me.the cars are beasts when built up. the s13 has been out since 1989 and peeps in the u.s. have only really gotten into them within the past 5 years. i remember when every one told me 240's and se-r's were crap and hondas were the shit. now everyone *****'s out 240's and people still build se-r's. i remember a time when everyone told me that VIP cars looked stupid. they said they hated the stretched tires and that deep lips looked ugly and why would i want deep lips on 19's when i can fit 22's and they would be cheaper. now there's sites and forums for vipcars and it has become more mainstream. basically i just like to be unique and i'll admit sometimes it doesn't make sense now to some people but maybe it will later or maybe not, doesn't matter i never needed, or cared about getting anyones approval.
onetonvip btw what ever happened to matt and his xb?

If it's something different you want to try... you actually don't even have to get into the headache of doing an engine swap (which I still think is a bad idea... especially in a Q that already had Nissan's BEST production engine). You can actually just add some forced induction to the stock engine and you'll already be one in several million; you can prob count on your hands the number of turbo or supercharged Qs in the world. Hmmm, there's acutally probably MORE Qs with engine swaps! Power-wise... I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how nice and smooth a well-tuned VH feels.
About M@... I usually call him dead matt when he disappears for long periods of time... whether it's to go on tour or to record a new CD... or even just to who knows where. Right now, he is currently dead matt again! Last I talked to him he was trying to sell the xB though. Not sure what came of that....
