View Full Version : VIP VS. DUB!

I'm really annoyed when some hip-hop dude in their Dodge Charger or Hummer (or something else gay looking!) gets on my side at a stop light and they crank up their subs and bang their heads (slowly) like a damn asshole and when I look "up" at their rims, they are mostly around 22"+ and they have the "spinny thingy" some even have a "24" badge and the wheels fits funny like it got higher for some reason. Why the hell does it look like that??? I even got a chance to follow one and they are playing porn inside their Hummer and kids might be in their minivans and see em!:pat:

And a few months ago, my family went to San Diego Sea World and I saw these two Asian couples in a nice 1stgen GS300 in limo black without any swirls (it says ARISTO) and the rims are pretty much 18" but it looks awesomely nice and fits like a glove on the wheel wells and has a nice body kit, I had to take a peep when they left and I saw the interior is nice, stock and clean, but when I saw the stereo, it is stock and I thought it would be filled with gauges and an armada of speakers and screens... Anyway, the car looked like a million bucks even without tint.

How come the Hummers and Chargers look like a POS even though they cost alot of dough and the cheaper and much older import cars look way better than the ones above and still be way cheaper? (what's the secret?)

DUBs SUCKS BALLS!

Who cares...do what you want and they'll do what they want. No big deal. As long as he doesn't call his car vip, then you're ok.

Is it wrong if I tell you I saw a Hummer once that has a plate that says "RAPVIP"? He has OE hummer rims. (Probably a wannabe?)

Really guys, why does VIP look so much better than DUBstyle? (is there a secret?)

it's a choice you make and the style that YOU like!

if you ask the guy in the hummer what he thinks about your ride, he'll prolly laugh and be like "that old thing..."

all people have diff taste. there are a alot of 300c'c that i've seen and love. there are some sexy vip cars on this forum. although somethings are kinda similar, low, nice fitting large wheels, there will always be people who don't like what you do.

i hope you don't let this bother you tooo much as you will go crazy!!!!!!!!!

I'm also guessing the vip on his plate had NOTHING to do with "our" vip. Why is this bothering you so much..seems silly to me.

pick your poison. We all basically like doing the same shit to our cars, just take different measures visions to it.

our cars are just as tacky in other peoples eyes....different strokes.

No need to get all bent outta shape over a car scene that u arent into. Some people (like me) are simply auto enthusiast. I can respect the work in all genres of Automobile styling.

As you grow as a person and are exposed to more things in life you'll understand what car modding is all about....and realize that the 'US vs. THEM' attitude is for people that live in a bubble.

Dub is another expensive style. It's what i've seen as the mainstream USDM luxury tuning. Though living in detroit I see a lot more "donk" which oddly enough I've seen some cool donk cars. I hate them in crazy colors. But a nice late 80's boxy caddi lifted on 22's just catches your attention. Styles like dub and donk are all about the largest wheel you can fit on a car. With chrome and tv's being the addition on dub. I'm not a fan of DUB, or most donk cars, but I respect them as a style. Because hot or not in my personal opinion, like vip tuners and other well rounded car tuners. They spend a lot of damn money on all that. And don't slack and buy replica parts.

in the end I'd rather a clean luxury car over a dub car. Though I gotta say almost every DUB 300c I've seen looks really nice. all depends on the wheel. Those cars just beg to be tuned.

ITs all in the eye of the beholder,,there are a lot of folks that look at our cars and say WTF is up with tha crooked a$$ tires in the rear?? THey think the same thayng you think mayng about Japanese VIP....The dude with the license plate was mostlikley using VIP in a whole different context than what you took it as and infact probably has no idea what JApanes VIP is.. I get many mixed feeling about my car with folks around here..some like it and some dont, but it doesnt effect my in anyway cuz I like it and I drive my car..

YOu should not let other styles of car modding have such an effect on you..if Japanese VIP was the only way and was the sickest way of modding cars dont you think that you would be seeing more Japanese VIP car styling than DOnks and DUBs...it does not take long for trends to pick up if they are truly hot..just look in the fashion industry things catch on like hotcakes..Truth is Japanese VIP cars are really not that functional for everyday driving situations and those other cars are...I know there are many places I cant even take my car to becuase if driveways or speed bumps..I dont see them haveing this same problem...

Just relax and do what you want to do...

oh yeah what are driving and modding right now that your so passionate about????? PICS please...

you could say the same thing about vip(crystals, puddle lighting tv's,led conversions, headlight retrofits, chrome handles, pillars and trunk bars)
B.T.W. i am also an enthusiast myself ao i like most an respect all parts of the auto industry. i saw a 300c on 26's with the body on the floor on air and i liked it! i am no too fond of donks either but ther suspnsion setups and their crazy ideas are impressive. i can also appreciate anything with a good wheel fitment

I don't really care what ppl choose to do w/ their cars. Because it's their car and they feel good driving it. Too much haten goin on IMO! Variety is what makes the world go around that and the ability to choose what appeals to you.=)

I blame shows like "pimp my ride" and that show where they look at celebrities mansions, and they're got like 8 cars sitting on stock suspension and expensive wheels. Looks ridiculous...

I'm all for donk, and some dub. But I just don't understand keeping your car stock, and just throwing on wheels at a stock ride height to make the car look disproportional and then refer to it as "baller" and drive around like your hot shit. [/rant]

i think it has all been said. theres good in bad in every form of tuning. a true enthusiast should always be able to respect that. just cause you see a car done in a certain style doesn't automatically mean its the pillar of that community.

on the 300/charger/magnum i believe the srts come with 20s, and the dub editions come with 22s. i wanted one for a good minute.

when comparing dub to (mild) vip you really should be able to notice how much they have in common. theres only minor differences in focal points like how we focus on fitment and stance while dub seems to focus more on wheel size. if you put a well done dub car next to a well done (mild) vip car they should look very similar. i keep saying mild cause all that goes out the window when you start talking extreme vip...

now every clown with a 300 on 22s is not a dub enthusiast, just like every clown with a gs on 19s is not a vip entusiast. compare oranges to oranges...

I like my bubble its warm and cozy and shame on you for trying and pop it:werd2:

lol but seriously its like everyone has said everyone has their own style i personally do not like DUB or DONK, of course theirs always the exception for DUB but never DONK lol. its just a matter of taste. I give them respect to their style as a style and respect to their cars when its due but to me when you need a lift kit for your cutless just so u can put on some 30s thats just .....UNFORGIVABLE.

OG

do some research and enlighten yourself. donk is (or was originally) a nickname for a 67-72 caprice/impala, not a lifted car on huge wheels. i'm not a fan of extremely lifted cars either (or trucks for that matter) but a clean box chevy with a 3" spring lift on 23s is gravy. once again, picking one car (or a few) out of an entire style isn't the way to go.

by no means am i trying to pick on one car out of the style its just not mine, if someone is into that then thats great for them and if i was to see one that looked nice in my opinion, i wouldnt hesitate to let them know but i just havent found that donk car yet that has made me say wow in a good way

I believe japan has a separate enthusiast group for dub, with different magazines that support it.

thats quite possible, but right now i am talking about dub influence in vip. without this turning into an argument, and only because this is 100% relevant to the topic:

i kind of went a little ot w/ the pics, and i know where going any further would lead so i'm going to stop. the point is the japanese market is embrassing these vehicles (job design, weds, anceltion kits) as well as styling cues (work w/ 20 badge). the styles are not very different, and some of the time the only way to differenciate is the make of the car.
