One of the audio forums I'm on has one and its pretty cool. Somewhere where you can post pictures/info of your progress.

I think that is a really good idea that way we don't need to hop all around the boards to see what members are up to.

My Mazda forum also has a work log section, where members have 1 thread in which to post their progress, usually with a bunch of posts in a row reserved for the OP. It's nice to be able to follow builds without other users interrupting.

if it was possible i would like to see one where only the op could post in that thread.

Not a problem. This is possible to do. So you're saying you want a separate subforum "Project Builds - VIPcar/VIPStyle builds only" where the OP can post a thread and only the OP can reply to his own threads. Correct?

Correct?why not let every one else chime on the project. just a section for builds so we dont have to have to post every builds in either lexus or infinity etc. Leave those for questions on there chassis and put the project to there own section.

^ or maybe every section (lexus/infiniti/other) that has its own build subforum?

Well some owners will prefer it to be for them to post only and if we open it up it will be just like posting any other thread on the forum. The purpose of this section would be to show members' projects as they are building it. Sometimes the comments take away from the person's writeup. Thats just my opinion so others feel free to chime in.

That a great idea.

At iMazda, the people who want an uncluttered build thread often have a separate comments thread elsewhere in the forum, but linked.

This is kinda of a waste of forum space though, honestly.

Sounds like a great idea! The subforums get hard to keep track of, having one big build section will be really easy to watch all the good builds from G50 to GS.

i just think that a lot of good threads get cluttered, off-topic, and sometimes locked. especially with a build log that could span weeks to months to years. i would rather see back to back updates than some pics, 3 pages of blah blah blah, and then the next update.

in my experience, most members are happy to respond to a "nice job" or "how-to" pm.

or maybe every section (lexus/infiniti/other) that has its own build subforum?

that idea has some pros and cons in my eyes.

personally i would like it all grouped together because i might see something i probably wouldn't otherwise. honestly i rarely check any of the make specific sub-forums besides nissan/infiniti.

on the other hand, it would make looking for a specific model a little easier.

A build forum would be great. Ziptied has this, gtrcanada.com etc

I would put it all in one instead of subforums.

I like and dislike the idea.

What I dislike is that the forum will get cluttered. Image 300-500 build up threads and most of them just consisting of putting on wheels.

OG
02-19-2008, 08:25 PM
i think by having it where only the op could post it would keep those kind of threads to a minimum. who wants to make a "check out my wheels" thread if no one can tell them how cool they are?

widebody_Q
02-19-2008, 08:38 PM
What im saying is if everyone has a build up thread then there would be too many and most of them would just consist of people putting wheels on or dropping the car.

As long as there are internet car forums, people will still post those "check out my wheels" threads because they want approval from others.

Then there shall be a law, the Man Law.

Man Law #45 : You shall not post your "Check out my wheels" thread in the build section, if so it will be locked & moved to "Wheel & Suspension"

Boys can't make Man-laws. lol jk jk!

What's the difference between this suggestion and the Blogger we have, or had, on here? Why waste more bandwith making up new subforums, when you could just have your own blog through the site, which could (iirc) be checked through your profile, or you could even just link it in your sig.

I forgot we had a blogger on here, actually Caoboy that is a good idea. Saves a lot more bandwith.

seems like it kind of got rail roaded by the blogger but i personally would like to see this still:

unsegregated build log section with no replies.

Whats the point then..Otherwise its kind of meaningless. I think that lots of folks would like to say words of encouragement or constructive criticism on what someone is doing. If you are on the right track it would be good to hear folks say hey nice job keep at it and if you were on the wrong track same thang folks would steer you in the right direction..Sometimes we don't allways agree at first but after a moment or so we kind of see things in a different light and say yeah maybe I should not use this PINK center hubcaps...just an example..I know I like to hear what folks gotta say..As long as your not to attached to your car.

OG
03-20-2008, 08:11 PM
the regular forums would still be there for that. how i would do it is probably dual post. 1 up for discussion and 1 in the log so you could have back-to-back-to-back updates. or like someone else said, a discussion thread linked from the log thread.

Just make a cardomain page and link it to your signature. At least thats temp resolution to this issue. I dont think it will hurt this site in anyway.
