Cool. Thanks for the info. Would you happen to know where the transmission plug is located near?

should be on the transmission pan, but some cars don't have drain plugs and you have to drop the pan for drain/refill. if you don't have a drain you can add one for next time. b&m, and i'm sure plenty others, make a kit. also a good idea to change your filter while you're in there. make sure you get any gaskets/o-rings needed at the same time.

another option is a bg fluid exchange. it pumps fresh fluid through the system under it's own power. you can find local shops that use the bg tool on their website.

Thanks for the info bro. I was hoping that someone has done it before so I know for sure so I can drain it myself. I'll have to check it out.

I just checked my 2000 Q45 service manual since I'm planning on doing the same.

This is for a 2000 Q45 but it should be pretty similar:

    1. Warm up A/T fluid.
    2. Stop engine.
    3. Drain A/T fluid from drain plug and refill with new A/T fluid.
Always refill same volume with drained fluid.
    Fluid grade:
Nissan Matic “D” (Continental U.S. and Alaska) or
    Canada Nissan Automatic Transmission Fluid
    Refer to “RECOMMENDED FLUIDS AND
    LUBRICANTS”, MA-8.
    Fluid capacity (With torque converter):
    10.5 (11-1/8 US qt, 9-1/4 Imp qt)
    Drain plug:
    : 29 - 39 N×m (3.0 - 4.0 kg-m, 22 - 29 ft-lb)
    4. Run engine at idle speed for five minutes.
    5. Check fluid level and condition. Refer to “Checking A/T Fluid”.
If fluid is still dirty, repeat step 2. through 5.

If I were you I'd download the 03 Infinity Q45 service manual on www.carfiche.com for free and use those specs since its the same engine and I think transmission. If not then join inifinitihelp.com and pay the $10 subscription and get ALL the Infiniti service manuals like I did. $10 is dirt cheap and you can get it anytime for a year.

I think the most important thing to remember is to refill with the same amount that you took out. Also make sure on your car use the Nissan Matic J fluid ONLY. My Y33 uses Matic D which claims it is just Dexron III by valvoline or something. Book says it takes over 10qts. but that's when it was brand new and dry so don't go by that.

From the Y34 Service Manual, simular to previous post,

    hope this helps

    A/T FLUID
    Revision; 2004 April 2003 M45

    A/T FLUID
    PFP:KLE40

    Changing A/T Fluid

    ACS00196

    1. Warm up A/T fluid.
    2. Stop engine.
    3. Remove the tightening bolt for A/T fluid level gauge.
    4. Drain A/T fluid from drain plug and refill with new A/T fluid. Always refill same volume with drained fluid.

To replace the A/T fluid, pour in new fluid at the charging pipe with the engine idling and at the same

time drain the old fluid from the radiator cooler hose return side.

When the color of the fluid coming out is about the same as the color of the new fluid, the replacement

is complete. The amount of new transmission fluid to use should be 30 to 50% of the stipulated amount.
    CAUTION:

Use only Nissan Genuine ATF Matic Fluid J. Do not mix with other fluid.

Using automatic transmission fluid other than Nissan Genuine ATF Matic Fluid J will cause

deterioration in driveability and automatic transmission durability, and may damage the automatic
transmission, which is not covered by the warranty.

When filling A/T fluid, take care not to scatter heat generating parts such as exhaust.

    5. Run engine at idle speed for 5 minutes.
    6. Check fluid level and condition. Refer to

AT-14, "Checking A/T Fluid" . If fluid is still dirty, repeat step 2.

    through 5.
    7. Install the removed A/T fluid level gauge in the fluid charging pipe.
    Checking A/T Fluid

    ACS00197

    1. Warm up engine.
    2. Check for fluid leakage.
    3. Remove the tightening bolt for A/T fluid level gauge.
    4. Before driving, fluid level can be checked at fluid temperatures of 30 to 50

    °C (86 to 122°F) using “COLD”

range on A/T fluid level gauge as follows.
    a. Park vehicle on level surface and set parking brake.
    b. Start engine and move selector lever through each gear position. Leave selector lever in “P” position.
    c. Check fluid level with engine idling.
    d. Remove A/T fluid level gauge and wipe clean with lint-free paper.
    CAUTION:
When wiping away the fluid level gauge, always use lint-free paper, not a cloth one.
    e. Re-insert A/T fluid level gauge into charging pipe as far as it will go.
    CAUTION:
To check fluid level, insert the A/T fluid level gauge until the cap contacts the end of the charging
pipe, with the gauge reversed from the normal attachment conditions.
    f. Remove A/T fluid level gauge and note reading. If reading is at low side of range, add fluid to the charging
    pipe.
    CAUTION:
    Do not overfill.
    5. Drive vehicle for approximately 5 minutes in urban areas.
A/T fluid: Nissan Matic Fluid J
Fluid capacity: 10.3 (10-7/8 US qt, 9-1/8 lmp qt)
    Drain plug:
    : 34 N·m (3.5 kg-m, 25 ft-lb)
    Level gauge bolt:
    : 5.1 N·m (0.52 kg-m, 45 in-lb)
    A/T FLUID
    AT-15
    Revision; 2004 April 2003 M45
    6. Make the fluid temperature approximately 65

    °C (149°F).

    NOTE:
Fluid level will be greatly affected by temperature as shown in figure. Therefore, be certain to perform
operation while checking data with CONSULT-II.
    a. Connect CONSULT-II to data link connector.
    b. Select “MAIN SIGNALS” in “DATA MONITOR” mode for “A/T” with CONSULT-II.
    c. Read out the value of “ATF TEMP 1”.
    7. Re-check fluid level at fluid temperatures of approximately 65

°C (149°F) using “HOT” range on A/T fluid

    level gauge.
    CAUTION:

When wiping away the fluid level gauge, always use lint-free paper, not a cloth one.

To check fluid level, insert the A/T fluid level gauge until

the cap contacts the end of the charging pipe, with the
gauge reversed from the normal attachment conditions
    as shown.
    8. Check fluid condition.

If fluid is very dark or smells burned, refer to check operation

of A/T. Flush cooling system after repair of A/T.

If A/T fluid contains frictional material (clutches, bands, etc.),

replace radiator and flush cooler line using cleaning solvent
and compressed air after repair of A/T. Refer to

    ,CO-14, "RADIATOR (ALUMINUM TYPE)" .

    9. Install the removed A/T fluid level gauge in the fluid charging pipe.
    Level gauge bolt:
    : 5.1 N·m (0.52 kg-m, 45 in-lb)

Went under the car this morning and removed all the under carriage covers and could not find the transmission drain plug... Anyone know where it's located?

Hey did you ever get this figured out? Well theres no plastic cover under the trans and every tranny I've been under has a plug (the exception being some newer altima cvts) after you get the fluid drained the dipstick is behind the engine, it's easy to see from the bottom the tube is on the right hand side of the trans going up into the engine compartment then I always start with 4 quarts, start the engine and let it warm up and then check and add as necessary, these cars usually take 4-5 qts, don't just throw six in you'll over full it. When the book says a certain amount it assumes a completely dry transmission, with a drain and fill you can't get all the fluid just by draining. Also there aren't any replaceable filters for these trans so a drain and full will do or a flush I'd you have access to the equipment, hope that helps I've worked at nissan and am currently at infiniti
