    Default Help please PREVIA Owners

    So I got my WEDS RAPIERs back on the EGG. If you recall the reason why I took them off last time was because my rear passenger tire was getting shredded from rubbing. Since then I got the CUSCO Lateral Bar, just rolled my Fenders......hoping that would fix my problem......but it was wishful thinking! Tires still getting shredded like Spaghetti........but only when I go up my parking structure for work......I guess its time to find a new job....NOT! To add salt to the wound with my 19's now on the ride it will make my RECON "Fraudulent" and makes my ride now "Illegal". Not the smartest thing to do when you work in Waikiki. Illegal rides and Waikiki are like oil and water........it just don't go well together.

    Anyone got a quick fix for this? I figure I got 2 options.......raise up my coilovers Or fender work.........any other options that I have missed? I am going to ask my work parking structure if they will allow me to park on the "ground floor"........that would be one fix.......but I still got the "illegal" thing.

    you basically answered your own question. Seems like you only have those two options. Either raise it up or pull the fender.

    Thanks for the replies guys. As for the Specs on them wheels, they are 19 X 9 + 33 and 19 X 10 + 34 I say roughly 1.25 inch poke on the front and 1.75 on the rear......maybe more..........I have not really bothered to measure it.

    My other options which is a far cry from a "quick fix" are overfenders but I would have to cut the original fenders. I have also been informed from a "friend" that I would be able to make the wheels fit with fender work. Both would be very time consuming.............not good, not good.

    I don't know if a 240 rear end would fit but that's an option so you can chamber it in..Common here in the states and cheaper than the JDM conversion..

    Not planning to do that big of an modd to my EGG. What is really blowing my mind is the fact that only the rear passenger tire is getting shredded.......the drivers side is perfectly fine...............weird. I looked to see what the culprit could be and seeing that the "plastic molding" might of been the problem I trimmed it..........we'll see if that cures my problem.........I really best find the solution soon....because I sure ain't got the funds to replace my tires......like some guys running crazy camber. LOL

    yosh...what size tire are/were you running? try running a smaller tire that stretches nicely and some more camber may just be enough to get you by...

    who rolled your fenders? any rippling or slight imperfections in your fender already? I'm sure you can roll it a little more to get the clearance you need?...maybe slide hammer and dolly will do the trick as well...

    I actually did the fender rolling believe it or not. Ended up using the good old hammer......old school style. LOL It actually came out really good....considering I have never did that in my life. No cracks in the paint........but just looked at it and because the wheels were rubbing looks like I got some chipping.....but not where you can see it so its all good. I checked if there were any areas where I had not banged hard enough but it looks all smooth and good. There was a bit of the "plastic" molding which looked like it could of been the culprit so I got out the good old sissors and to smooth out the sharp edges I used the corner of the sidewalk to grind her down. How is that for ghetto.....lol! But what ever gets the job done right?

    My current tire set up is 235/45/19 on the 19X9 and 245/45/19 on the 19X10. Technically with the tire weight rating I could run a 235/45/19 on the 19X10. Because the tire would hold the weight of the vehicle it would be considered legal but not sure if RECON would pass with that much stretch. But then again I am illegal anyways. But I do plan to update my RECON and be legal once again with either overfenders or fenderwork so I don't think that going to the 235/45/19 is a good option. Also would perfer not to go any lower than a 45 series tires with our jacked up roads......especially now after them rains......its a mine field out there! The more rubber I can keep between my wheels and the road is a good thing.

    The main culprit of the shredding of my tires is my work place parking structure........hopefully I will resolve that problem come Monday.

    personally, i would try rolling...when you roll the lip, you're also slightly pulling as well...

    Yeah the rolling sounds like something that I will most definately want to try.

    Maybe this is going to sound pretty straight out dumb but has anyone ever tried to "roll out" their fender and pull and stretch that for a little some, some? While whacking my rear fenders flat the thought crossed my mind. I believe the EGG has folded in the fender .25 or maybe even .50 inches that could possibilly be used. Or is it customary to just "roll" fenders and "add" metal to the fender?

    Please be gentle as I am just thinking out loud........I take that back.....take out the "thinking" part. LOL

    doesn't work like that...if you took channel lock pliers and folded those lips out...you still need to find a way to blend the ends...besides that, your lips will be a straight end, no roll to them at all...it will just look ugly...i mean, its possible but some metal work and a lot of body work will be required...definitely out of some people's skill level...

    there's other, way easier ways of doing something like that...it will take forever to explain...

    you might wat to consider having a wheel or machine shop take a few mm off the pad (correct term?) of the wheel. A guy I work with had his wheel shop do this for his car, they machined 5mm off of the wheel's mounting surface effectively raise the offset to tuck them in a bit. as long as they don't go crazy with the amt of mat'l they remove, it most likely won't affect the strength of the wheel. He hasn't had any problems with his. Just an idea, good luck......

    ^^^^^Very interesting....never though about doing that.......but before I would try that I would definately look into doing some serious fender work.

    Yeah I figured that it would be a lot of work.....just curious if anyone has actually tried it before.

    Update: Fixed my problem with the work parking structure.....got a stall on the ground floor. Now I just got to be careful of everyday driveways and my angles. LOL This time around I also notice that the rear is sitting even lower than before because of the fact that I got a pretty nice sized box and sub combo in the ride......that is not even hooked up yet. LOL Just dead weight being hauled......that weight + the weight of my wheels.......I am probally going to lose some where close to 50 miles to the tank..........not good not good.

    hey, pimpin ain't easy

    I hear ya tho, my LS wheel/tire combo weighs a total of 36# more than the stockers, but it also made the ride noticeably smoother

    ^^^^^^True that about a smoother ride.........I like the feel, look, just need to get these wheels to get under that fender. Oh yeah and having to custom a sliding door hindge. Happy happy joy joy.......it never ends I tell you!

    Update.........I am going to end probally going the major fender work route. I figure I got to pull the crap out of my fenders to keep from shredding the the wheels anyways. I am hoping that the metal will "stretch" enough to cover my wheels. Wish me luck....because I am going to need it!

    Wish I never wasted my monies on the Lateral Rod......should of just used that money to invest in a Watts Linkage System.

    New option..........sell wheels......am very much debating this option. Keep an eye out......you may see it soon in the "For Sale" Section.

    Forgetting about legalities, How low is your ride? What is the approx camber for the rear? What I am guessing is there is an irregularity in your hammer job. You could go with some less agressive wheels( I dont think these offsets are that difficult as is) or you could shell out maybe $50 for someone to propperly roll your 1/4 for you. Cheap investment in relation to looking for new wheels/tires combo.

    I think a 45 profile is pretty big as well. I referred to a magazine and found a previa with similar size wheels running a 245/35/19 on the rear.

    What i wrote above has been mentioned before in this thread as well. Don't sell the wheels! They will fit!

    The USDM Previa cannot be cambered in the rear. It's a straight axle.

    The sliding door rubs on the wheel when opening up more than 1/2 way...thank God for door panels.
